Agreed.
Including the 3 overweight middleaged women who are currently snoring off their lengthy lunch after mooring on the lock landing! Blindingly oblivious to the the fact all other boaters are struggling to get in because of the weir outflow and lack of mooring.
So so tempted to give them a good blast of the horn, but the deckchairs they are sitting in might not cope with sudden movements.

Floating fascists is my suggestion as a new name for thunderboat. These licence surcharges have definitely got people to show their true colours.

And good luck to Hamas. I hope they wipe those fucking red sea pedestrians off the face of the earth.
That ok?

Back to the point of the thread and the question raised ... I'm not sure in reality (not social media) that they do.
Isn't it just one of those perception things ... a kind of inverted expectation ?
Like the 'shiny boater' or the 'historic boater' looks down on everyone else ... just a slightly lazy stereotype ?

I'm a scruffy boater and I look down on everyone. I think its a class and breeding thing.
Sometimes we just know.
There is no place for me in this world of imperfection.

Im wondering where the official C&RT towpath / EOG moorers fit into all this? Where they not equally guilty of ‘voting’ for the rise in CC fees? Which side of the fence will they sit when the shiny, marina floaters VS the dirty, pisstaking CC’ers battle actually commences?

We spent the summer considering alternative moorings.
I have to confess I was stunned by the cost of some C&RT on line moorings.
One at Lime Kiln on the Ashby (offside mooring against a field, nice views but only rings provided) was £1897 per year auction start price.
Seems an awful lot of money when you can have full services, vehicular access alongside, and reasonable security in a marina for around £600 or £700 more.

It may be because Universal Credit can pay for a CRT long term mooring but a marina may well not allow it. I have heard about non residential LTM being paid for and thereby causing unnatural bidding patterns.
I don't know if its true but have an idea it might be.
If they are happy to pay for a cc er licence then no reason not yo pay for a LTM even if it has no residential status.

Our licence is due 1 January 2024 (thanks to the month covid push-back).
The licensing page currently shows it will be £1059 with early payment discount.
It will be interesting to see what we actually pay, and how C&RT assess us ... whether as a continuous cruiser or with a home mooring, because actually we're, strictly speaking, neither.

Heres a couple who don't seem at all bothered by the upcoming price rises, in fact, by CCing and renting their boat at weekend they are living completely free in Central London. 👍 www.thesun.co.uk/money/24304419/live-for-free-ditching-apartment-canal-boat/They pocket more than £20,000 a year by renting it out at weekends……
Hope they are declaring that £20k to HMRC after admitting earning it in a national newspaper article!🙄

It's a weird situation really. It seems inevitable that the slim segment of the population who actually use and care about the canals have to contribute more toward it's continued existence. But on the other hand, CCers (no apostrophe!) arguably have greater restrictions on day-to-day life as one consequence of being compelled to move and then be charged extra because they 'use more resources' while at the same time facing the acknowledged reality that more and more of the vital facilities thus depended on either no longer exist or are inoperable more often than not.
I also find it odd that some boaters are revelling in the notion that 'a bunch of freeloading scum are getting what's coming' (I'm paraphrasing). Divide and rule really does work. I hope that the predictable mood of the Thunderboat masif isn't representative of the wider population but fear it most likely is. Oh well, something has to change. I wonder what will happen after Parry's five-year-plan expires? It doesn't take a great deal of imagination to suspect it's really about getting everyone used to the idea of sky-high annual increases in licencing costs by picking on those least able to defend themselves for starters. As usual.
Sell now before the market is flooded!
