Nothing wrong with sit ins but you need to learn to eskimo roll. Not ideal if the water is only 2 foot deep. Otherwise, with no spray cover, if you get swamped by a wave or something, you just sink. Sit on tops on the other hand, providing that the hull isn't pierced or the hatches compromised, are unsinkable. That's quite reassuring if you go out to sea. Quite true. I borrowed Mrs R's sit on to go out to sea as I feared mine would sink if turned over. I do have a spray deck, and I can't eskimo role. I tried turning it over one year, and it did indeed sink, so I added some buoyancy bags which helped a bit, but is far from ideal.Sit on tops also tend to have more storage space, ideal if you want to do extended trips. Having said all this they aren't for the purists, it's sit inside for them, every time.

Of course that scary graph could look less scary by changing the scale on the axes and the start date. the scale is irrelevant ...... Stabby is right, that is the root cause and it is the elephant in the room that nobody is talking about Can't talk about it, it's sacrosanct. In any case more people equals more money. It's all about money.

Yes it's very much about hull shape. Long and narrow is fast. The bigger it is, the more it floats and therefore the less water it needs to displace. That's where length comes in. If it's too wide though more drag will be created when paddling. Racing kayaks/ canoes are very long and very slim. The problem then is that they become too unstable for leisure use. This one is a compromise between a racing kayak and a fishing one, which tend to be quite fat, for stability. Probably an inch or two too narrow for a novice but I'm quite experienced. If you want something really fast you need to look to save weight by having a carbon fibre hull. £2-3K isn't going to happen so it's cheapo relatively heavy plastic for me. The same applies with surfboards. The longer they are, the easier they are to paddle. Also a thicker surfboard will paddle easier because it's more bouyant, the bouyancy not offset by much extra weight, as they are made of foam. I still have a 14ft GP canoe, built like a tank on a scout project before I was given it years ago. As for carbon, a bit like carbon bikes, how many spend a fortune to save a few kilos, then load it up with a ginormous beer gut! It's the same with many leisure activities. People try them then go out and buy the very best gear. Gear that's probably well beyond their ability, that they can't make the best of. Surfing is possibly the best example. They see a video with a cool dude doing amazing carving turns on a 5'6" board, top brand, costing a fortune. They want to emulate this, go out and spend their grand on a bit of fibre glassed foam. They'll never catch a wave and probably end up either selling it for a big loss or otherwise, snap it in 2 trying to catch a wave. If they'd been like the very uncool grandads, 9 foot boards built like tanks they probably wouldn't catch any waves the first few times they try but after a while, if they stick at it, the just might. If I enjoy this new yak, keep at it for a few years and get the desire for more speed I might just spend that 2-3K. But right now it wouldn't give me any more enjoyment which, at the end of the day, is what it's all about.

Backrests are for girls It has a stated top speed of 11kph. I measured my Galaxy at 6 flat out. This particular engine might struggle in some ways but it's a match for most when it comes to long distance paddling. I wonder if the hull length increases the top speed, I know there's some relationship with a displacement hull. Or is it just the general shape? Yes it's very much about hull shape. Looks a tasty bit of kit. Did you get the backrest too? As for twice the speed, has it come with a new younger engine then? Backrests are for girls It has a stated top speed of 11kph. They'll take your money. That's not enough so they'll take your kid's money and given that this is insufficient the money of their kids too. This is all insufficient so they'll just print the stuff, reducing the value of any money you have left.

New kayak arrived yesterday. It's a beast at 14'9" but surprisingly easy to handle. Not that I'd like to carry it for more than a few yards. Calm weather forecast for tomorrow so I'll be heading out to sea. It's supposed to be capable of twice the speed of the old one, we will see...

Depends on what you use the computer for. 32gb is more than adequate for my needs. I suppose someone who wanted to stream live porn at the highest possible resolution might need a little more.

Barmouth quiet this afternoon, a far cry from the weekend, we had a storm of biblical proportions. My bike cover was destroyed, cycle cover ended up half way down the hill in a privet bush, several houses flooded. It feels like the middle of summer on the terrace, protected from the northerly breeze, enjoying the bright sunshine.

It's the council one - Freedom leisure.... it's fine and not full of muscle marys... just (mostly) oldies and the occasional twink... not intimidating at all thank goodness - they have made swimming difficult cause you have to book a session (limited numbers due to covid??? - CHOLRINE???) so Im only really managing the gym atm... I'll make more of an effort to get back into swimming when I've shifted some more blubber and look half acceptable in trunks...well shorts. NOT gonna disappoint everyone in a pair of budgie smugglers. Strange that one Mark its been a free for all at our swimming pool for months, I would prefer it to go back to booking but no chance, far to many women only sessions though so I have complained about it It's OK here Peter, of course, but I'll respectfully suggest you don't post this on the other channel. If you do Lady Ange will have your guts for garters. You should be complaining that there are not enough women only sessions, rather than too many.

I didn't realise it was Halloween last night. Imagine the shock when someone hammered on my door at 6 in the evening declaring 'trick or treat' Not wanting to risk my motor bike having its tyres slashed by way of a trick I hastily ran to the food cupboard and extracted 2 10p 'Racer' bars. I was half expecting the kids to laugh in my face at such meanness and trash my bike anyway but no, they seemed happy enough with this.
