Try and get out for decent walks if especially if the sun is making a rare appearance like right now. Myself I'm getting into listening to podcasts when alone for a while, just recently came across Joe Rogan on youtube (won't appeal to everyone though!) Coffee and choclate and nice food can give a little boost if you like that sort of thing, the diet can wait til spring. Forums can probably help but not if they overtake things and stop you getting out enough. If things do get really bad and you're truly in the grip of the 'black dog', DO talk about it to family, close friends and neighbours.

Just to add that a hug or cuddle is usually better than words (which can be devisive). Forums are a good way to get to know people you might not have ever meet though. What's quite interesting is meeting people face to face from forums. They usually turn out to be nicer than you think. Either that, or they don't want to meet up!

Thanks everyone for your kind responses, I was feeling a little bit embarrassed about my post but the kindness shown by you all was worth a bit of embarrassment.
Have now sorted out going back to see the 'specialist', last time that happened I ended up on a 1500 mile walk from John O'Groats to Lands End which turned into a 2000 mile walk including the complete SW Coastpath (all with my poor dog!).
PS. The dog caught me looking at the rucksack this morning and still hasn't come out from hiding under the bed!
PPS. Off to search info about getting dogs used to kayaks - I'll keep you informed...

I can only echo other people's kind thoughts & say that I'm rooting for you as well.Depression is a terrible thing, many folk just don't understand it -unless they've been there or know someone close to them who has.

I agree with smiley Pete. Very important not to alienate relatives and friends.
My mother had major depression for quite a few years which she finally overcame by hanging herself. Not ideal but one way out of hell I suppose
I know this isn't very cheerful but point being that it is important to talk to other people about it.
A forum will be full of non medical professionals but some people will understand some parts of the subject. I would not say that it can be used as a therapeutic device as such but might help in some ways.

I have mentioned that I'm an Idiot haven't I.Don't think that you're the only one, this morning I discovered another idiot when I was having a shave he was looking quite strangely at me in the mirror.
I really hope he won't be there anymore next time I look in this mirror, the guy looked like a real weirdo to me, and believe me, I've met many of these.
Peter.

There is a risk that people like me turn up and make it worse ! If they do just say "bugger off" or something

I forgot to include this link earlier in my reply to Foxy dogontour.co.uk/Life has it's ups and downs, some of us struggle more than others. PS. This place rocks!
