Bona fide used for navigation = living on board to absorb and enjoy the british countryside and changing your garden views every two weeks. It's only your view that it isn't bona fide navigation (and more importantly the faceless bureacrats). If C&RT are so certain that the life is illegal, why do they not clarify the matter in court, rather than revoking licences? You obviously don't realise that some of your 'throw away' comments appear to some as condescending, judgemental, and lacking compassion. I hope this isn't your intention. Rog that still doesn't answer the bona fide navigation question. If you consider that Nick is taking an extreme position it is only fair to point out that you are taking an equally extreme position at the opposite end of the spectrum. Ability to cruise without a home mooring was to enable people to do long distance cruising where there was no possibility of returning to an (unused) home mooring. It was not meant for people to trot out the "I'm a continuous cruiser" routine to enable them to bumble up and down a handful of miles of canal just because it's convenient for work or schools. If they need to stay in a restricted area because of choice ....... and job and children is choice ....... then make arrangements to support that choice...... get a mooring.

Perhaps Thunderboat should have a special 'Gay' thread, somewhere nearby the 'Stoppages' thread which hasn't been much of a bubbling cauldron, as even I get a bit fed up with the persecution. What persecution? I guess it must have been kris's post calling Nick and 'old queen'. Well, anything goes with me, and I do enjoy a punch-up, but I can't help thinking Nick must be getting a bit tired of it, and haven't we got past the rumble-tumblings of last April-May? I wouldn't like to see Nick disappear from Thunderboat, he's a valuable contributor. He writes well, and he could certainly put his mind into writing articles or books (it may be that he does already, I don't know). I may be talking rubbish, it's late here. Almost time for cocoa and for setting the alarm clocks for 5.15am. I hate having to go to work!

What persecution? Look, this is the sort of person you really are: Because you are from a family of mongs and spastics? He referred to me as a mong. Nobody else, and certainly nobody in your family. We are now on the cusp of 2016/2017 and "mong" has not been a word used to describe somebody with a physical or mental disability for nearly 50 years now. It's sole meaning nowadays is to describe somebody who the writer considers to be stupid. If you are that prissy and easily offended, can I respectfully suggest that you fuck off back to CWDF? Now you've shown your true colours once again it's time to do everyone a favour and FUCK OFF for good, OK?

The fact that nobody thought it worth responding to didn't mean nobody read it, they just didn't think it worth replying to. Now, be a good boy and go and be an internet stalker woo-woo somewhere else.

Johnv, can you identify for me specifically where in the legislation there is any reference to long distance cruising....or indeed any distance cruising.
That is exactly my point. This is a dispute about what words mean, and yet C&RT choose not to seek clarification at law.
Additionally there simply aren't moorings exactly on the stretches that best suit. Many would happily pay to moor on that stretch, and in winter they can and do. Suddenly it's legal for four months.
I have no beef with anyone, I am just expressing an opposing view that I feel is right as much as Telemachus and yourself feel the opposite.
They're just a few boat dwellers who find themselves now being persecuted.

Talking of the L&L I've been on my deathbed with flu and have managed to see plenty of good stuff on the iPlayer www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01rwfkmThere's a fair bit of good stuff that Nairn has done, including a dig at the NDC for starting the rot in Northampton in '72 Can I get a set up so I can play these kind of things on the telly along with Youtube ? Better to watch than crap on thats on telly. I'm rubbish at tech, a crude way would be HDMI cable into TV from laptop, that would put the display and sound on the TV. Anyone else got a better plan?

This place is tremendous!
How many different discussions, slanging matches, and virtual fights going on at once.
Wish I'd got a pint and a bag of crisps.

Rog There is a dispute about what the words mean (let's face it, they are pretty vague!) so why don't the disaffected boaters get together and clarify the point at law? I presume it's because they (you) think you'd have a pretty good chance of losing. But, and I'm not totally up on these things, hasn't NBTA and Nick Brown already lost such a test at law?

Rog No I can't point to it in the legislation, only somewhere buried in the arguments made as to why there should not be a blanket requirement for all private boats to have a home mooring. Legislation is often badly written because the people writing it had no appreciation of what the future might hold. (and probably thought that the term bona fide navigation meant the same to everyone and was not subject to interpretation) Whatever the strictly legal position I believe that morally it is wrong to use the "continuous cruiser" card as an excuse to stay in one tiny area, As I said if you make a choice to remain in one area you should get a mooring. (and at one time or another I have done both)

Should you wish to start a poll suggesting that I no longer post on Thunderboat and the majority votes "Yes" then I will stop posting on Thunderboat. Just the fact that the resident forum mong wants me to stop posting isn't enough I'm afraid.
