I'm with Foxy on this one. If there's any ice, boat sightings should be disregarded for enforcement purposes. The checker could simply tick a box 'ice' that could be added to his hand held device. Any other system comes down to a matter of opinion. This matter of opinion becomes a completely unworkable farce when you consider that ice is never consistent in its thickness over a mile or few of any canal. Ice or no ice, simples. However in the real world it isn't that clear cut. There can be big variation during the period of just one day. So if the logger comes past at 9am there may be thin ice. But everyone knows that by midday that ice will have gone (depending on the weather forecast of course). If you suggest that a hint of ice at 9am should allow you to remain stationary for the whole day then it just confirms my view that you are looking for any excuse, however thin, to avoid moving. You're all over the place. Sometimes it's easier just to admit you don't really know what you're talking about. You may even get some respect for it. However, I suppose it is entertaining, so keep going Nick. Do you really believe all liveaboards sit inside their boat all day waiting for the exact hour the ice mets (if it melts). No we have better things to do. BTW, we've just explained how the ice can be 2 inches thick a few hundred yards away from a mooring which is clear of ice. Again, because you are not privy to localities like Tring cutting, your assumptions are silly. A couple of years ago I checked the ice was thin at Braunston with my foot. As it was very thin we decided to set off. Big mistake! We hit 2 inches if ice nearlly all the way to Napton. We also got some very negative looks from moored up boaters on route. The ice was visibly and audibly stressing boats we went past. I woukdn't make that mistake again. Anyway Nick, why the obsession with this topic? Are you really trying to learn something from this, or just feeding the 'pond life' whob are not worthy of your intellect, as you seem to portray.

I can see why Jenlyn doesn't want to move his boat - he's too busy breeding kittens! Seriously nick, your recent posts are becoming quite bizarre. If I was you, I'd seek medical advice, just to be on the safe side. I am being genuinely sincere. Just get it checked out matey. Perhaps it's hanging around with all the miserable opinionated old codgers on CWDF for so long? I thought gay men were meant to be broad-minded, cosmopolitan, liberal, moderate and caring individuals? Perhaps Nick is turning heterosexual - all be it in the misogynistic, cantankerous Harold Shipman boater style. Nick??

I was missing that sense of humour, that's better.

Your not making it difficult for anyone to stereotype are you? I mean kris's comment on you being a queen does have some merit, given some of your recent posts. Most gay men I've met seem to be just getting on with their lives, not making a particularly big deal of their sexuality. Yet you seem to feel the need "to put yourself out there", challenging others to demean your life choice. Your definitely one weird bloke.

Gay men, CWDF members or Harold Shipman look alike? The same question could be asked of you with regard to CC licence holders couldn't it?....

Actaully I think you can still get into trouble even with both hands on the keyboard. Ask Nick...

I see Mr Telemachus finds criticism of himself somewhat harsh and unfair, and certainly feels the urge to respond to defend himself, and rightly so.
That 's exactly the same feeling I get when C&RT harshly and unfairly criticise me.
Nobody said it was a major issue, just that it was a concern and was utterly unnecessary.
I have said many times I do not feel C&RT are evil conspirators, but their incompetence is a concern, and the fact that I may have an undeserved black mark on my file whatever one of them says, is also a concern.
