I use a porta potti 265 on my cruising boat. Its ideal. The family boat, which contains 3 females has a pumpout (the Lavac I fitted).
I did look into the bagging option and found out that it is in fact legal to dispose of bagged shit in an ordinary bin.
I was a bit surprised by that.
There is an american toilet unit which automatically wraps the waste in a bag and seals it.
There are so many "dog bins" around I think that a well designed bagging unit would definigely be a goer.
£1000+ for a composting toilet does seem a lot!! Does the user know that it is actually allowed to just use a sea toilet on the Mudway?
I know people frown upon direct discharge (not my cup of tea) but if its one at a time i don't think its a problem. Its when people dump a whole holding tank in one go that the wildlife get upset due to the biological oxygen demand of the material.

Something a bit different. I have a vacuum cassette bog and spare cassette. I thought it the devil's work initially, but I persevered and now I like it. Have u tried this?

Something a bit different. I have a vacuum cassette bog and spare cassette. I thought it the devil's work initially, but I persevered and now I like it. It uses no chemiit's own after als, no yeast, it's odourless, it's easy and clean to empty, it has a porcelain bowl and a proper seat, like a "real" toilet. The only complaint is it was fitted with the vacuum cassette part under the bed when it could have been in the bathroom which to my mind makes more sense (nobody really wants a container of effluent under the bed?) but it's compact and takes up little room. The devil's work are vacuum cassettes! The boat was fitted with such a system when we bought it in 2004. It was wonderful, as you say. No blue, no smell, wonderful. And then, the bloody thing developed a mind of it's own after 12 months. Self flushed in middle of the night, wouldn't form a vacuum. Nightmare! I ripped it out after another six months of fannying about, and went to a Thetford, with three cassettes (I'm cassette rich ) Great system when it works, but too unreliable for me. Rog

As I said, it's a great system, as long as it works.
Just bumped into a single handed boater of my acquaintance, who is now a composter. Empties liquids every 3 days or so, and solids 4 times a year. Well pleased with the system.
Still not for me I'm afraid, and if you're emptying solids after 3 months, is that actually composting. Everything I've read suggests 6 to 12 months.
If I'm emptying liquids every three days, may as well empty the lot.
A chacon son gout.

Point of order Quaysider. Your tool is a hole-saw, not a circular saw. I smiled when you said you used a bit of fairy!

Someone left the forum because of other people criticising their choice of used food handling equipment?
Seems a bit odd. Everyone knows its a big topic on boats, liable to cause emotive responses.
Having a crap is a fundamental part of being human so its not surprising.
I quite like the idea of a freezing toilet

We clearly didn't recognize it.
Being innocents in a wicked world, would you care to explain what it is?
