.................. are you implying that a majority of Americans were in favour of ANY of those wars? Not at all, but they probably have more of a say than those in N Korea. and what difference has that made? think Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan.

The defence of Korea might have made the Communist bloc hesitate to start in Europe err ................ may be true but I was not addressing that issue. I do not believe that the typical western democracy allows the electorate to have any say as to whether their armed forces go to war or not.

I hate war....the big reason is because those who make the decision don't face the guns..they send in the ordinary people to be canon fodder....and if they were personally threatened they'd pop down a nuclear bunker to keep safe so they could then come out and decide on the future of a dead world. I cannot see why we cannot just all live peacefully..all that money spent on arms and death could be utilised to help those in need.. We have a lovely world and the human race is bent on destroying it all.

Unfortunately throughout history humans have been driven by greed and satisfy this by imposing control over the majority. The monetary system is the main tool used to do this. If everyone woke up tomorrow and just did what we were good at to help others, we wouldn't need money. After all, we are the only creature on this planet which use money. We could also all work together and share knowledge rather than hide it to drag down competition. The only flaw in this system is that there will still be those who only want to take but not give! As I said, greed.

Capitalism creates war for profit. Sad but true. While financial gain is seen as the only worthwhile pursuit in life this will never change. Some people make a LOT of money from wars. Loads.

Bassplayer is right. The sad thing is that greed is an animal instinct anyway but in theory a bunch of humans (animals with big brains) have the capacity to figure out a way to work around it because it is damaging but all they do is create systems and economies that reward greed.
All rather sad but never mind.

"You're wrong, Emilie. There's no way I could have known this before, but there was always something missing. In every business I tried, I can see now, it wasn't me that failed. Something was missing. Even if I'd known what it was, there's nothing I could have done about it, because you can't create this thing. And it makes all the difference in the world between success and failure." "Luck?" "War." From the movie Schindler's List.

I'm not sure if there is another species on this planet where so few can control so many.

Another George Orwell quote... "War against a foreign country only happens when the moneyed classes think they are going to profit from it."

Its ok donating money if it goes to the starving homeless etc but if there are ?? as to uses of money we shouldn't be doing it..instead of money which may be skimmed by ne'er do wells we should donate clothing/food/shelter/medicine or cows/pigs/sheep/seeds/equipment to give them the means to sustain themselves.

And education.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat drinking beer all day.
Or something like that anyway.

We are more aware of consequences of actions but the silent majority still let themselves be manipulated by the noisy few.
