My elderly boat has suffered the way many do - leaky shower area - with the usual consequences. I have now taken the old tray out and repaired surrounding damage but the actual area for the tray is quite small and the pre-manufactured shower trays that will fit have all been very flimsy, so much so that I doubt their longevity. Thought therefore I might build a shower tray/wet room arrangement, making the tray in wood and then adding a membrane prior to tiling. There was an article in CWDF where someone did this but I cannot find it and I can find very little on the products I would need to complete the job. Can anyone here help?
Thanks

If you are half handy with fibreglass I know of a reliable supply of matting...

Glass is an option, Gazza, thanks and I may take you up on it, but I have seen some nice jobs with tiles etc and quite fancy it. I suppose I could use glass and then tile.

We use glass matting for making pipelining, always plenty of offcuts about that would otherwise go to waste Dad has his boat at Littleport, I'm sure he'd be happy to pass it on if you decide to go that route.

I hope you are going to keep an updated thread going as you build your new shower ...... as Gazza has already told you , we like projects on here, With piccies of course !!!
I will be particularly keeping an eye on the thread as I have an elderly narrowbeam yoghurt pot as well as Sabina H, which I use for cruising the ditches. (and the Ouse last year)
There is no shower fitted and I keep looking at the toilet compartment and thinking "wet room" (Not this year of course, Shapfell is on blocks for the year, while I am busy with Sabina)

I don't get wet rooms. Why would anyone want the whole floor wet? Can't you adjust the layout and fit in a proper tray?

definitely not possible in Shapfell ...... it's a case of wet room ..... or smell (or hope to find a working CRT shower)

I don't get wet rooms. Why would anyone want the whole floor wet? Can't you adjust the layout and fit in a proper tray? Nope. There is a built in pump out tank in the way and this restricts the size of the shower tray. I can get them smaller than the available space but that costs in terms of space so the "wet room" alternative is the way I will go. It is not really a wet room though it is a shower area (especially the tray) constructed using wet room technology.

I am thinking wet room in the Vital Spark the new name for the bathtub or whatever name we have for her this week. It does allow you a much smaller space for the bathroom and we need that space for the livingroom/kitchen. I have managed to acquire another Rayburn regal with backboiler for her so that has to be made room for as well. Will be starting work on her shortly as I have nearly sorted out the vehicle fleet fingers crossed

I am thinking wet room in the Vital Spark the new name for the bathtub Shocking name for an electric boat It gets worse I have fixed the ailing 1500 BMC it now starts after a couple of seconds heat and is smoke free in about 10 seconds I have an interested party with it just cleaned up. Or another with a strip out and refit with the BMC and the finale option is the full electric conversion. The problem is Jayne doesnt like the bathtub at all! and wants a James Bondi type broads cruiser, so it might be sell both and convert one of those to electric
