I hate banning but...
As I see it people have one birthday. Its when they are born. I know some people are "born again" but this is unusual and not literal as far as I am concerned.
Its a commercialised arrangement designed to make people buy cards and presents and all that sort of shit and pretend that they like you for a day, while spending money on things you will put in a bin. A bit like christmas.
I think its terrible. Terrible is too light. Its a disgrace. Celebrating birthdays should be banned from the face of the earth never mind just forums. It really is that bad.
Eta forgot to quote the OP.

As a year is a natural thing and everyone is born on a particular day of that year that then keeps coming round, the idea of noticing another year having passed is ok with me. I count mine more vaguely personally, the day or even time of year isn't really important. I could just as easily count winters or simply enjoy loosing all track of the date and my age. This is the only place anyone wished me HB, my kids know how I feel and my dad never remembers anyway. I quite liked it. A few words is nice and it's enough. Cards, presents, piss up, party? Not for me.

I hate birthdays. It's not a real event, purely arbitrary. I think we should celebrate only a few - 18 or 21 perhaps. 80, 90 and 100 are worth celebrating. I used to dread being asked by my then wife, do you know what day it is today? Only to be told it's six months since we painted the bedroom or some equally banal event. I do think women find the cycles of the moon and sun more important than blokes. I see birthdays as a day where you will get presents that cost too much and that you didn't want.

Remove your birthdate from the list. Problem solved. Johnv, stumpy and several others will continue to check the list and wish a happy birthday to those who appear I suspect. I greet everyone I meet on my travels. Some choose to ignore me. That's their choice. I feel better for having greeted them. If they feel better for having ignored me, then we're both happy. You can always ignore the birthday threads, they are easy to spot Rog

I stopped liking birthdays when I stopped getting birthday cards with ten shilling notes in them.
