HMRC confiscated my SAS pension when I was caught at Dover trying to import 26 tonnes of cannabis resin. i thought your speciality was smuggling immigrants. I don't know where got got that idea from. I stopped doing continental work- which I used to love- largely because of the problems with potential illegal immigrants in Calais. Like the vast majority of truck drivers I considered finding illegal immigrants in my trailer to be the same as finding burglars in my house or on my boat. I know numerous truck drivers, simply trying to do a job, who have been financially ruined by having immigrants found in their trailers at Dover when they were not in any way complicit with their presence, and who had done everything humanly possible to prevent their presence. I have posted on numerous occasions, and was banned from CWDF largely because of it, that I absolutely despise John Sloan (Cotswoldman) for his support for violent criminal gangs who target decent people trying to do an honest job of work, and I'll re-iterate that yet again. The world would be a better place if the loathsome racist cunt dropped dead from a heart attack. Hopefully that clarifies the situation.

It seems Crt are using it to increase liscences we'll over the inflation rate. 25% is suggested figure, I don't know how accurate this is. If you are referring to this bit kris it is not very clear at all. If CRT are suggesting 25% then the accuracy is 100% so you saying you don't know how accurats it is is pointless. If a third party were suggesting 25% in order to stir things up then it would be understandable to not be sure about the accuracy. If you are talking about a final figure then thats a completely different thing. I know it comes down to the subtlety of language and the written word.

25% is a nominal figure. The point is Crt are using widebeams as an excuse to introduce over inflation price rises for all boaters. So forget the figure of 25% and just think of large increases. The question I asked in this thread is, would you be happy with a large price increase if you thought it was getting spent on maintenance.

The figure of 25% was not an increase in one year. It was at one point a figure to be reached within a five year period. It was suggested as a means to slow down the continuing increase in liveaboards coming onto the canals.

The increase this year saw Parry and CRT attempt to pre-empt the inflation rate. I think increases over the next 4 years will at the end of that show an increase of 25%.

People that never leave the marina shouldn't pay anything at all. Yes they should, because 1) They aren't proper boaters, and do nothing to animate the waterway scene, and 2) They are generally stinking rich and so can afford to pay more than impoverished boaters such as myself. The couple opposite us in the marina lived aboard for 3 years, never took the boat out. He was a bin-man, which I don't think means he's stinking rich. Well, maybe stinking I suppose. So Yes to 1) but no to 2) even though you hedged your bet by saying "generally".

Thanks I'm just trying to understand what crt are planing. I suspect you would have more of an idea than they do. At the moment, they seem to be all over the place, each singing different songs. I think the CEO has lost touch with his troops, and they are just making it up as they go along.

Thanks I'm just trying to understand what crt are planing. I brought up exactly that point with someone after the meeting who was keen to understand why a couple of us displayed a lot of distrust in CRT. I said that the problem is that most boaters don't know what the big agenda is because CRT (well Parry) isn't telling us. For example, if there is a long term objective to get rid of live aboards or CC'ers then let us know so we can plan ahead. It's all this cloak and dagger crap which is making so many suspicious. Why not just be up front if there is some kind of government (or security) driver behind this. Of course it's just as likely Jenlyn is right and they are just running around like headless chickens. Something tells me not though.
