I bought a milk round some years ago and had a Town & Country electric float, it had 42 cell batts opposed to the normal 36 cells. It also had a 3 speed electronic gearbox. This beast would do 30mph and could go round corners and roundabouts flat out. It caught out many drivers who thought "Oh it's only a milk float" and then next breath were saying " Jeez that thing can move" I loved that brute! Phil

My mate has a Nissan Leaf, even that feels quite quick to me. Your friend has my condolences. I die a little inside when i see one of those things. The problem with them is that what you don't spend on fuel at service stations, you spend on coffee...

Tonight's local news (We are currently on the Wiltshire/Somerset border) said it was a plumber that was driving.
Not quite sure if that is relevant or not......

if I remember correctly my Laverda was about 4.3 ...... and that was scary quick The 2.4l air cooled engine I specced for my 40 year old camper manages 11 seconds complete with poptop and fully loaded for camping. Not too bad and surprises smaller cars who think they can nip past without dropping down a gear or two. I have vague plans for a 3L version but I'd have to change the carbs, exhaust, clutch etc and not sure I can live without the heating that's part of the exhaust system. Was that 11sec for the 1/4mile? This is what the Type 2 was made for, my daughter is running her Samba at 4.05

Almost under 17 seconds is pretty good, faster than mine I would think. BWA? I'm guessing it's a Type-1 based engine? 11 sec 1/4 mile? No chance! Built for road/torque,it pulls in 4th from 1500rpm but it's done at 5000. The previous engine, built from a 1600 up to 2020 with wasserboxer crank, hotter cam and big valves and 9:1 compression that I built on the dining room table would rev to 8,000 and still going before I lost bottle. It went like shit off a shovel but it was dead under 3,000rpm so I sold it to a chap with a beetle which it's more suited to and built a bigger better one at 7.5:1 CR aimed at torque and cool running. I'd like to have had a slightly friskier cam but there's too big a jump from std to even the mildest available and though thrashing through Milton Keynes became fun, generally I'm a bit old for a race engine in a road vehicle and only built it to prove a point.

The first one in that vid does 11sec Not sure what her next move on the engine front will be present spec is Engine : 2366cc VW Type Four, Twin 44 IDF Weber Carbs, Webcam 86c Cam, Porsche cooling fan and shroud, Stateside Tuning big valve cylinder heads and a bespoke RNJ Motorsport exhaust system Clutch : Kennedy Stage 2 Gearbox: 1303S Beetle Gearbox built by Cogbox with Super-Diff and heavy duty side plate Talk is of new heads and fuel injection but can't remember exactly what.

Haha yes 11 seconds for the first one but that's not going to be much use on the road. No doubt turboed as well. I almost went FI but I love my Dell 40 carbs too much. Your daughters engine spec sounds the kind of one a friend of mine builds - Paul Weeding? I'd try a proper 1/4 mile in mine but I'd be in 4th too soon but as I can get to 60 in 3rd (sat nav) I quote that. But it does go well in 4th so maybe I should, just for fun. I'm guessing your daughters engine is around 160-170 HP? Torque? Mine is a weedy 100HP but 180 ft/lb torque at 1800rpm makes you forget about HP. A std 2L is just 80ft/lb so I've done ok for just my extra 440cc (b&p's) light con rods and worked 1700 heads. Everything else apart from the carbs is bog standard 2L Type-4 which cost me £500. It's a cheap engine for what it does, all in around £2k From scratch, but the machining was ultra mates rates and I already had the carbs.
