No, they don't assist one to renovate an old vehicle on public land. Yes, once the vehicle is restored and roadworthy, they do offer a lower rate of tax, though no lower than some modern economical or unpolluting (at the point of delivery) vehicles. It is EXACTLY THE SAME with CRT and historic boats. They get a discount on the licence too. So what was your point again? Cars older than a certain date pay no road tax .... so they get a assistance ..... the fact that it is the same rate that new, non or less polluting cars is irrelevant. Boats older than a certain date unless they conform to a very strict series of conditions receive NO reduction and even if they do manage to conform, then the reduction is riseable. Totally different ballgame You said "if you own a classic car you receive assistance from the government by paying no road licence. If you own a historic boat it's "pay up or else".
Although you don't specifically say it, you imply that there is no assistance from CRT, which is not the case.
If the "historic boat" has been buggered about with to the extent that it no longer has any historic value, why should it get a discount?

Their idea of what has been buggered about with is open to question. With a car it is purely the age ...... stop trying to split hairs

But as I said, the allevation isn't that generous considering plenty of brand new cars can be had with the same alleviation. In practice, old cars that are kept on the road tend to be kept as original as possible since that is the whole point. With boats, some are the same but plenty are converted into leisure boats that, apart from the hull, bear no relation to look of the original boat. I can see no reason why they should have any heritage status.

A thought for the IWA set:- Logan's run for boats, anything over 40 year's old without an open hold gets cubed and turned into the latest Β£150k+ floating WiFi/Bluetooth/Can-Bus connected pseudo floating cottage with fake rivets.

Now that's called a threat which I hope you can back up. It's also libel in itself being a false accusation being made in a public domain. No, its called pointing out that if I wanted to sue you for libel, you have already given me plenty of material. But as previously mentioned, I don't want to. So have you documented this evidence?

There we must disagree. Sabina H used to be a tanker, she is now a cruiser and my home. She probably could be converted back to a tanker but who wants one of only 75 tons carrying capacity. Whatever she now is, She still exists and if anyone in the dim and distant future wishes to convert her back then it's possible. If I had not rescued her and turned her into my home she would be gone ...... forever !!!
That is the same with Kris's boat and many other vessels that mad buggers spend their health, wealth and sanity keeping afloat and active. They provide a diversity and historical thread without which the waterways of Britain would be much poorer.
Modern boats, fake rivets and all are only a ephemeral part of the scene

There is a lot of loose talk about libel here.
Many years ago, I had Nigel Johnson threaten me with a libel action unless I removed a blog which called him a liar. The point he made to me was that the article might prevent him gaining future employment and if he took action against me, then the onus was on me to prove it. His email rather got up my nose and I replied that he that he had not denied lying when making his threat. He replied that he did not have to ...
I took some advice and changed the blog to read 'In my opinion, Nigel Johnson has lied to me ...' and added that he had not denied it.
I heard no more.

I think you will find that just stating its your opinion makes no difference whatsoever.. As to why he didn't pursue it I couldn't possibly say but I would suggest its likely nothing to do with the alteration of the wording in your blog.

It would be quite interesting to see the effect if CRT decided that historic boats had some sort of special dispensation other than the existing license fee discount. Maybe a waiver on the 14 day rule. I don't think its a bad idea as it could help save some boats from the scrap man's cutting equipment.
Would it result in shagged out old wrecks suddenly becoming very desirable? For it to work in a boat preservation sense CRT would surely have to require regular hull inspections or they might end up with boats being abandoned.
