Can't you increase the range with more batteries or is that too dull/easy? The other thing about the electric is that it doesn't get the boat up to hull speed. It needs about 4hp to get the boat going properly and 4hp on an electric outboard means a lot of batteries. My 24v Minn Kota 74lb trolling motor pulls about 40amps which is about 1kw so just over 1hp. It pushes the boat but not very fast and certainly not against a strong breeze. And more batteries would just need more charging, are heavy and expensive.
