Oops, no-where to stop (ie no piling) for quite some way. We have just this moment tied up at the first bit of piling. We passed various moored boats - at tickover of course, and with the headlamp well dimmed (who else has a dimming headlamp?) - but amazingly there were no MCotC poking their heads out saying "Oi! Don't you know it's illegal to boat at night!" or some such miserable whinge. Slightly disappointing! I have twin led headlights that have a dimming function, along with motorised direction. Very posh, I'm impressed!

Jeff got BBQ stuff from tescos, we stopped at the VMs below Hillmorton, had a very pleasant BBQ in sunshine, then (G'n'ts not withstanding) we ascended the locks in blissful solitude and have just this moment exited the top lock. Tesco bbq Tacky. I can't really disagree, but needs must. However the burgers were fine, the sausages (97% meat, allegedly) were pretty good. And the chicken skewer things were adequate. The chef was superb (me, of course!).

Tesco's quilted toilet paper is quite OK for us. It's a shame they don't sell those £2.50 brown doormats anymore as we like to have a fresh one for every trip. Aldi Saxon 18 toilet roll £3.99, why they chose to name it after a glorious but long since dead race I don't know.
Good bog paper at a keen price. I can top trump (no pun) you there Gazza with our "Famous Manchester Stores" 36 rolls for 3.99 here in Wakey... it's not nice but the maccerator can cope without problem so it's worth the wince!!!

Met an interesting one today.. We'd earlier pulled in and been passed by a front-steered wooden river cruiser inspection launch type boat, going quite fast. Well, relatively fast compared to our 2.5mph through Fenny Compton "tunnel" with the level down 6". Arrived at Clayton top lock to find said boat pointing the other way. Chap was a little distressed as he had run hard aground (boat had a keel) and couldn't pull it off. He asked for our help to pull and handed me a very short line, the angle of which (due to its short length) meant I was mostly pulling into the bank. I saw that the boat was pivoting about a point well aft and went to back to push it at that point. The line fell into the water. I pushed hard near the stern but nothing much happened, at which point the guy realised what I'd done and said loudly and irately "you fucking idiot, you've let go of the line!" - this with some small kids from the hire boat just coming out of the lock, standing adjacent. Bearing in mind the stern was still pinned to the bank and the owner had hold of a different line, it wasn't exactly a drama!
Well one is tempted to walk away but I am actually a really nice chap and realised he was stressed (even though there was no actual stress - his boat was just stationary when he wanted it to move). So I brushed it off and said I would attach our bow rope and pull him off with our 43 horses and was there a strong point on his boat to attach it to (I had visions of pulling the front of the boat off). He said that human power was worth a lot more than engine horse power, but I persisted, he attached the line and I pulled him off barely above tickover reverse in about 3 seconds. At least he had the grace to say "I take it all back" once his boat was floating again.
And then I encountered Mr Stabby!

And then I encountered Mr Stabby! Ah yes, sorry if I pronounced the name of your boat wrongly, but you know how it is with us thickos.

Maybe the official form of greeting when seeing another TB'er on their boat should be
Oi, TWAT !
I reckon that'd work for getting attention.
Would be funny to do it at a place busy with gongoozeliers.
