For my sins, Ihave been a member of the ' Narrowboat (fucknugget) User Group' on Facebook for quite a while now, mainly for comic value, reading some of the dumbass questions asked and trying to get a rise with equally dumbass replies!
Here's Some pearlers from this weekend..
hi all is they any one out they wimen on.they own like to meet up I live in Brighouse /elland on a barge feed up being on my own but got to like dogs my be friends and see where it go
Hi people of the canal world. I have a calorifier question? We're planning on doing a long journey over the next few days and will chugging along for about 8hrs a day. My water in my calorifier is heated by the engine. Will it be OK on an 8hr journey? Will it boil the water? Should I isolate the calorifier from the engine?? Or just leave alone?? Don't want my tank to go BOOM!!!
Just passed by a green boat named 'Champagne Chrarlee' whilst moored at King's Sutton, South Oxford canal. He was headed towards Banbury at SPEED! If you pass him moored please return the complement!
Good morning. Could anyone just me and indication of how much it costs to get a 36ft narrowboat spray foam and batterned ?
Anyone know if it's OK to park a barge overnight near a lock?
Me and the hubby can't decide on the colour for our floor, which we are having replaced (following a major water leak)! Anyone willing to share any photos on here of theirs?
What's the difference between a 48 hour mooring, and a 2 Day mooring?
I'm new to the canals and just bought a longboat. Any tips?
What is the best finance?
So, is anyone else subscribed to this bastion of pontificating Fucknuggetry ?
Overall, it makes the sanctimonious bellends on the other station seem quite normal!!

Many in that group are from cwdf, although under different guises. It used to be quite a good group, but then got silly when the admin started kicking the genuine posters off site. It now seems to attract idiots, though there are a few who attempt to keep it sane. Canals and rivers is far more genuine, and Martin is very sensible when moderating.

The best one I'e seen on there was a lady that had decided to change her oil and upon discovering that the oil she removed was black and the oil she had purchased to replace it with was a golden colour came to the conclusion that she had bought the wrong stuff. She was asking if anyone knew where to buy the 'proper black oil'.
There are similar metal detecting groups on Facebook where people post pictures of shite that they've found and get it misidentified by idiots.
These groups are pretty much my only reason to visit FB.

Here's another one....good work on securinng the boat whilst creating a deadly man trap / cyclist & kiddie killing tripwire when the boat moves a couple of inches! Lyn d lou you came unpinned at the stern above Weybridge lock. Didn't have a spare pin so the rope is looped over a post. Best we could do sorry!

My friend got banned from several of the boaty groups on there for posting a link to Thunderboat in the canal market place group. She was told that you can only post businesses that Jo Ewers knows the owners of. When she questioned it she was banned from all the groups that Ms Ewers has a hand in.

I go on it, but IMHO the London Boaters Facebook group is even better as it is populated largely by lentil-knitting tree huggers who seem to live in a world of perennial perceived outrage. Somebody found a Chinese tourist on their front deck one morning posing for a photo and someone else said "You should have got him to cook a special fried rice" and World War Three broke out.

The ewers are a pain in the ass on fb. Little empire builders, picking and choosing who can live within their limited scope. The traders are afraid of her because of the damage she can cause, and the fear of being blocked from her canal pages groups. What the traders don't realise, is the damage being caused to them by being associated. It's all bloody nuts really isn't it, kids and gangs in school playgrounds.

Just sits in mercia on the mooring, year in year out.

This little gem has been posted within the last 24 hours on London Boaters...
"So, we're in need of calor gas and just saw a fuel boat pass us. Didn't quite have enough time to stop what we were doing (cleaning out the mold from under the bed) to flag them down... What if gas boats played some music when they arrive in an area (similar to ice cream vans but less annoying... maybe Smoke on the Water)?!"

It's not just boaters groups though is it? It's the whole facebook/social media thing, some of the comments/questions we get in our village FB group page are outstanding in their stupidity, same as the dog breed specific group I'm on.
We had one idiot kicking off about them installing High Street parking meters recently all based on something he had heard from a friend of a friend who was 'in the know' at the council. it caused a real stink because some just sucked his utterings up without question, when a local councillor came on and pointed out he was talking shite (though of course she didn't use the words) he got a right monk on. This is just one example, the whole of FB is peppered with people spouting crap by just not checking facts or often just basic attention seeking, and they sure don't like it when it's pointed out that what they have just posted is utter tripe.

A female boater on LB recently spent a week broken down because she couldn't work out how to bleed her fuel system after a filter change and in the end I said "I think you need to accept defeat and find a man to do it for you" and that didn't go down too well.
