Yes but the boat could be left waiting in Bristol for when you come back. Just a thought. I have them sometimes.

We aren't back in the UK until 2nd September (we have a week in lake Annecy after we leave here) - I would then have to get all the way back down to Bristol from the North East after getting home. It's a none starter I'm afraid. Much like Ricco's boat....

Nah, being thrown all over the place and wondering if we would live on die on the tidal Thames was the best day we've ever had on the boat! I thought it was that day you were beached in a pound somewhere with a mattress on the prop and you spent the day sharpening your bowie knife in case some scrotes turned up while you waited for the useless RCR man to arrive. That was good too. Anything with action and adventure is better than plodding along in a desultory fashion through bucolic and pastoral Oxfordshire countryside, where seeing a cow having a shit is the highlight of the day.

You could always find someone to take your boat back for you slowly along the K&A - perhaps a nice Thunderboater? mjg comes to mind. It would need to be someone reliable and who has a lot of time. Or leave boat in Bristol/Bath until you have a month to bring it back? Bodger could be another candidate? I would do it but am back at work in the education business. As much as I would love to pilot Nick's Hudson, giving the royal wave as I pass all the scruffy continuous moorers as I gluided serenely past I'm afraid I am currently unavailable languishing in the low 30's in Provence, partaking of some very nice food and wine. And you are enjoying it so much that you felt the need to log on to Thunderboat...

Of course, I don't think I have posted for a good few days now, its a nice balmy evening, the red is open and I thought I would check in to see what the lab rats were up to whilst I've been off line.

You've not really thought it through, have you.....narrow boating as a hobby. Perhaps white water rafting, bungee jumping, or bull running would be better suited to you. Plodding along in a desultory fashion is exactly what narrow boats are about. Rog

Receiving death threats in the scummiest part of Manchester and thinking "this is the day I've been waiting for for the whole of my life" is what narrowboating is about. All the rest is just the boring stuff you have to do to get there.

I've heard Australia is nice. It is lovely yes, and they have large swathes of sea between France an Oz so taking our our car and caravan is neither an affordable (to us) nor realistic proposition. Besides they even have internet there too, which means I can still keep tabs on the lab.
