Blimey, I know Turku very well, I used to get the ferry there from Harwich on the way to Moscow, flown there with Finnair a few times too. It must have changed a lot since I was there though, I don't think I ever saw a non-Finn there.

And the Politicicians keep telling us we need them as they are skilled engineers, brain surgeons and computer programmers, etc. and are good for Finland's economy. If these people are so great, isn't it wrong to steal them from their own countries where they could do so much good So what differentiates them from you? Couldn't your skills as a bus driver be utilised in your own country?

I'll stand to be corrected here but I believe Ross works in Finland because he was married to a Finnish woman, who subsequently died at a very young age, and he moved to Finland while she was still alive because of her obligations to her family, rather than because of him seeking some type of economic advancement.

Couldn't your skills as a bus driver be utilised in your own country? Yes. I drove buses for four years in Hertfordshire and Essex, and in and out of London on the Green Line 735, and to and from Stansted & Heathrow Airports. Many happy passengers. But I decided to take my skills and help a third world country to become better. Result = many happy passengers in Helsinki. When I left, though, Britain started its downward spiral into the depths of despair and despondance, neglect and decay. I'm sorry about that. Should I come back?

Mr Stabby is correct, only that my wife didn't have obligations to her family, Finns just get homesick and after 8 years in England she thought we could go to live in Finland, as she had more relations here (4 brothers, 4 sisters, 2 parents, and assorted others) than I had in England. Helsinki City Transport needed professional people of quality and offered me a post on the spot as soon as they saw me. I worked for them for 21 years. Six years ago I moved 'Up North' to live with my girlfriend (met 12 years ago, my wife died 17 years ago), learned to use a chain saw, and dropped into my slightly unusual job November 2013. It's much nicer living in the middle of nowhere than in Helsinki, empty roads, a much free-er life all round, nice girlfriend (not an argument in 12 years). I do appreciate my situation, I have been very lucky, but then I have also put in a lot of effort to get to this position. Living here is a bit like living on a boat, we'd freeze to death if we didn't cut down trees and chop them up and make our own firewood - and we are very dependent on our car.

That was rather rude, but meant to be funny. After two hours in 'your shoes' I am a bit dizzy and disorientated and will go and lay down. I may be some time.
