I'm sure that fence will do a lot to stop the knotweed spreading...

Talking of knotweed, my parents have it at the back of their garden. They've been quoted 3 grand to get rid of it. Is there any way this can be diyed, practically and legally?

Stem injection is the way professional company's do it, using Glysophate. If I understand it correctly you can cut and burn but you must burn on site and not transport it. It's a long winded affair whichever way you do it.

Good grief! It's a plant. It can't run away! Why is this so difficult? (I'd use an arsenic, cadmium and mercury injection mix to properly take the wonkers out of it).

How about cutting it all down, burn it, pour diesel over the stalks coming out of the ground?

How about cutting it all down, burn it, pour diesel over the stalks coming out of the ground? That wouldn't kill it.

It won't do any good. Like delta9 suggested there is good money in its removal........ because it's such a b@stard to deal with. It will grow through pretty much anything.

So if there's good money to be made, why haven't you all started a business? You just need to be in the background, boating, whilst your employees get rough with the knotty devil. There may even be enough profit for ricco to buy a new engine.

" ...controlled burning or burial " . Would the latter not be self defeating?
We had it in a local wood. Virtually eradicated by cutting, burning, and stem injection, but it took years. Even after stem injection, it still comes back, but much weaker. That was mainly a diy effort.
