I know this is a different subject but it's good old idiots on Facebook who think they are experts. I'm having quite a polite debate with a bloke who seems to think that if you are going up hill and have to overtake a parked car you have right of way over oncoming traffic. he won't even contemplate that that advice on the highway code is for single track roads. just gets my goat right up. steam, let off No one has a right of way in 'conflicting' situations such as you describe. The old way of thinking was that on a steep hill the downhill car should give way to the uphill car. This was because if the uphill car had to stop there was a chance that it wouldn't have enough power to move uphill again - not really relevant today unless you meet a classic car or a 2CV. I mention the 2CV as I once had an incident on Hardknott Pass in the Lakes - this involved having to get 20 cars to reverse so I could get to a less steep part of the road...

I always thought vehicles going up hill had right of way but I really dunno about the pulling out to pass parked car bit...that don't seem quite right

I thought that going down hill had right of way so I had a look at the highway code, and rule 155 includes ...."Give way to road users coming uphill whenever you can"

The highway code is advisory and as such it can't concede a right of way.

Get an old land rover ? Or bash the car with a hefty bit of wood so as to dent it but not damage the paintwork too much.
