interesting. do smokeless zones not work then?
which would be worse. boat engines running or wood burners? what other options are there?
I do notice it will be small zones. just put the boat on the edge of the zone and fire up.
I wonder if it's just the Thames or he was paraphrasing to include canals.

As ever he looks like he has gone off half cock. Its not clear what is meant by 'low emission' stoves - does he mean Defra exempt for burning wood in smoke control areas or does he mean stoves meet the new Ecodesign standard due to compulsory for all new stoves in 2022.

I don't suppose he knows. I wonder if it's to do with leaving a legacy. Boris had his bikes.

I suspect Mr Khan doesn't know the difference between a canal and a river.

I dont think he cares, however I do think that diesel boats in London with stoves will be in serious trouble very shortly. Boat engines at best can manage euro 3 emissions so they will be either banned or have to pay a daily charge to be there! An easy way to get rid of the London problem of boaters I think, also absolving CRT of any problems or blame

That will probably wash the majority of the muck out of the exhaust, Water is discharged below the waterline and the cleaner gases above. Would need a pump to pull in raw water, filter etc but could solve the problem for diesel boats.

I know it's not the subject of the OP but I have been a tad dismayed with this obsession of logburners on boats? Is it a Trad thing or money saving or what?
House I rebuilt..massive multifuelled stove/ central heating...good while in front room but very hard to control/regulate...unreliable / many mornings waking up cold, was on verge of fitting a calor gas boiler as a 'press & play' backup before the Mrs became pregnant so had to move! '
From my boating experience. .23ft fibreglass cruiser, no heating/ gas cooker. 40ft trad, morso in front cabin..too hot all the time, roasting in front room, freezing cold in boatmans cab in rear 56ft widebeam... mega warm in front room, kitchen, utility with it lit...freezing in bathroom/bedroom....with Kabolo diesel central heating going, toasty everywhere! Current 57ft tran ..diesel stove or Webasto...toasty everywhere!
Wood coal burners?...get real!!

How can you compare the beauty of a living flame to a truck night heater? And that's without going into incidentals, such as the fact that a multifuel stove does not make a noise similar to a helicopter taking off.

Graham the pollutant is still there at the exhaust these are old gross polluting diesels with wood burning stoves! what you are suggesting will pollute the water and kill the marine life so no gain, far easier for TFL to either charge or ban

My whispergen has oxygen sensors and a catalytic converter on it to clean up its act and even that wouldnt save it from TFL because it would only be euro 4! We are doomed I tell you doomed
