I realise I may be skating on thin ice and that I could get into hot water for starting this topic.
How many people think it is acceptable to urinate into a hedge to take the load off the elsan/pump out/compost toileting system? It is better to drain it to the canal?
I was once told by a new-type boater that throwing piss into the canal is bad because it encourages weed growth.

Piss in a hedge/field etc is fine. That's what all those cows and sheep do, all day long. I don't normally piss into the cut (unless I'm desperate).

Peeing into a bucket then upending it into the drink is much more discreet than pissing over the h/edge. The trick is to empty it before it becomes too full or you get too hammered and knock it over. Works better on a cruiser with a cockpit than a trad stern narrow boat. Pre sea toilet I could often be seen standing on the transom gunwale peeing into the river so as not to add to the ever increasing thunderbox level. Now it goes out the bottom of the boat I'm a bit more civilised and will use the toilet in preference to an alfresco slash.

I use a 1 litre plastic milk bottle with the top cut off and the handle left in place. Like the dinghy bailer.
Not that there is a problem about contents as I have pumpout on the mooring but old habits die hard !

I'm still quite impressed that an overboard discharge sea toilet is allowed on a Mental Agency waterway !

Best to just piss in the sink, no need to be discreet then.

I'm still quite impressed that an overboard discharge sea toilet is allowed on a Mental Agency waterway ! At the moment they have no choice tbh, the only pump out between Northampton and Peterborough has been shut for the 'non boating season' The MLC only have one pump out, on the Great Ouse there are 3 public pump outs between Denver and Earith, Elsans are even fewer and further between. There are of course facilities In private clubs and marinas but there is nothing like the frequency you'd find on the cut, public or private. That and the two rivers drain huge swathes of land the odd overboard discharge isn't going to impact the ecology of the river greatly. More worrying is the amount of estrogen in the water thanks to the amount of women on the pill In the county causes some fish to have both girl and boy bits! I'll scan a GOBA article chatting with somebody from CRT, there was a bit of aa mention in there about sea toilets and the Great Ouse.

Best do a separate one, marked M &F , don't want to catch their germs!

I don't. .................. perhaps that's just too much information.

Best to just piss in the sink, no need to be discreet then. Thats ok for us normal height folks... even on tippy toes Andy can't reach the sink.

When I did my boat fit-out I deliberately installed the washbasin high - I told everybody it's to help it empty, but actually it's to stop men pissing in it.

Pee is great fertiliser, when I was living in a field in a van I emptied my overnight bottle on the grass and wrote my name with it. After a few weeks my name was 3x higher than the surrounding grass. 👍 So maybe filling the cut with pee isn't the best idea.
