Mist be two reasons. To get hold of the property and guarantee some kind of income from the government.
I wonder if they will take on the flood management side and will they cope.
I wonder what will happen to the remaining bits of the EA.

I wonder what will happen to the remaining bits of the EA. No, they won't be responsible for flood management etc. Just the navigation side.

Thank Christ for that. They should really put a hold on this "consultation" and bring EA license holders into it and have one licence.
Or do they intend to keep as is?

Looking at the current Thames and Anglian Waterways charges (which are completely different from each other) they would probably lose money as current CRT river only licence is less than EA charge in a lot of cases. And then there is the Gold licence.
Licence fees may eventually be harmonised across the country but it will be a slow process.

I took the "consultation" question about licensing per sq. metre to be the first step in harmonisation. It would not surprise me if transferring the EA navigations to CaRT does not involve legislation so keep an eye open for CaRT trying to get its "contractual terms" etc. a statutory backing.

Same shit same colour!! CRT need to sort out where they are going and then pass an act to support it.. At the moment someone sooner or later will be rich and powerful enough to take them to the cleaners! If they are sure that they have boaters favour it shouldnt be a problem should it? However the reality is boaters are fed up with the crap management, and the workers I suspect for the most would drown the lot of them in the biggest lock they could find. Far from a new broom, CRT is the same old shit with the same stench of deceit and decay that BW had before it. If it wasnt for the workforce on the ground, who for the most are great guys and girls I suspect the canals would nearly be closed now. I will as soon as the bathtub is finished be moving to the Broads, god help the broads if CRT ever take it over as they will ruin that as well

This is manifestly bad news That's the Nene fucked for a start. Just about the worst news this week. Indeed Even if most of the EA staff are TUPE over to C&RT I can't see C&RT ever improving on the failing efforts of an organisation that has been slowly letting things slide over the last 10 years or more. A new logo and extra mouths to feed isn't what EA navigations need, they need the reversal of the policy of squeezing the navigation budget and people in charge who understand the navigational requirements of the waterways they are supposed to be managing.

Maybe it's just another scheme to degrade the waterways in order to have an excuse to privatise.

Maybe it's just another scheme to degrade the waterways in order to have an excuse to privatise. they are already privatised in everything but name. It is a private ltd company making a grab at getting more public assets turned over into its grubby little Mits.

This is manifestly bad news It's fucking terrible news and no one from either organisation has asked me as a license payer if it's what I want.

Just had a quick squint and don't think we'll be too bothered by any of them. We are out for a few days over new year, but should be fine. I know GOBA will be all excited about cart taking over, but Christ knows why, don't any of them have any idea of the lack of maintenance on the canals and the widespread waste of licence payers funds.
