We had a nice trip to Fort William to see Neptune’s Staircase (where the Caledonian Canal descends into the sea near Ft William). Lucky with the weather, frost gone, snow and rain stopped, not much wind. We then drove up to the end Glen Nevis, which is impressive even by Scottish Standards. And the next day, a steam train trip from Ft William to Mallaig via Glenfinnan viaduct (aka Harry Potter viaduct) and return. Good to do it in winter as there was less foliage to spoil the views. Looking across at Ben Nevis (in the middle ) and Anoch Mor (on the left). The gap in the middle is a steep corrie that I once got stuck in in my glider near the valley floor. Eeek! scary black jagged rocks and a blind corrie. Got away eventually and round to the front of the Ben where there was plenty of lift. Still, not a bad backdrop for working through a flight of locks!

Proper grim up there, look at the old style train... This is true. Nicola Sturgeon keeps all the wealth for her cronies in the slums of the central belt, and the Highlanders are left to starve. It’s the Highland Clearances all over again. Ethnic cleansing I’d say.

We have plenty of boats that size in Yorkshire and we get to use the locks ourselves! Clearly CRT think us yorkies are cleverer than the jocks otherwise yous would would get the keys as well........................and those carriages could do with a spruce up as well....................... All joking aside great pictures and a great days out to say the least

They’ve left 1 residual capstan thingy (like a wheel with receptacles in it to take poles to turn the wheel) which seems to be the original paddles, otherwise all the gubbins is in a locked box between each lock. And of course CRT nothing to do with it - is not that CRT trust the Yorkies more than the Jocks, it’s that SC don’t like anyone playing with their toys. They were badly potty trained and never learnt to share nicely. Comes of growing up in the slums of the Central Belt where the only toys were discarded flick knives, used needles and empty bottles of Buckfast.

Continuous Moorers on the Cally are in a different league! Really nice photos thanks for sharing. But just one question, how do you know they are continuous moorers? Your not letting your preducices get the better of you again are you? 😃
