About 9.30pm christmas eve as we walked home from my brother's on a dark lane with no passing traffic, a barn owl flew towards us at about head height, straight down the road. It appeared to look directly at us, and as it reached us (it felt like within touching distance) it turned off the road and disappeared into the woods alongside. Magical, and the first barn owl I've ever seen near my home Rog

Seen a fair few foxes too on top of bins rooting around for food! Working nights has its advantages!!πππ

I don't believe in barn owls. It was more likely to be father Christmas given the timing.

Over the years, I've seen 3 or 4 hunting in daylight. Beautiful birds. There's an owl pellet just near my front door at the moment, tawny must have been sat on the gutter corner above. Often hear them at night. I must pick it up and examine it, mice and vole skulls etc.

Years ago I moored somewhere I think it was on the Nene and there were manmade owl boxes in the field opposite. Watched the adult barn owl going hunting in the evening and bringing back rodents for the chicks in the nest box. They are very beautiful to watch. Very graceful.
Not quite sure but I think it was on the Nene . would have been early 00s sometime.
That was really nice.
Another place I remember mooring up and watching little owls. Again a very pleasant thing to watch.
I like birds.

A cousin of mine used to re home owls from a sanctuary at his farm...so we had the opportunity to see them as they arrived and watch their progress. I love wildlife..haven't seen owls here but I do get quite a lot sharing the garden here.... wouldn't call them wild but 2 goats enjoyed Christmas lunch courtesy of Horror House garden...the neighbour kindly shut my gate so they didn't snack her plants were kept safe.....

We saw this owl the last time we went out. The picture came out rubbish as I was steering and I had to zoom in. Just as we got close enough for a good shot this happened but then we were treated to a wonderful sight of the owl in full flight.

Terrific.
Last time we were up north moored outside Burscough, we were lucky enough to watch a barn owl quartering a field for almost an hour.
Love seeing them.

We are very lucky to have some resident barn owls and can watch them watering a large reed bed on the marina. Phil

We have owls living in the trees in the fields behind us. We have a hot tub which we like to use late evenings, one evening I was mimicking his call and he was replying, Im Indoors suggested this was not a good idea as we could get accosted by an amorous owl. As I was scoffing at his comment, this bloody great owl swooped over us, about a metre above us! Gulp! I shut up!

There are lots of owls in the fens where I used to live. I hit one head on once, but that was better than the swan I saw go through someone's windscreen.
