Spring is coming and locks are opening again so where are you heading?
Me, not very far this year, got three holidays overseas booked so boaty stuff is limited to the Coventry, Ashby and the north oxford this year, wanted to do the BCN challenge but no time really, working full time sucks!
Got a shit load of jobs to do that include two new rads, change bedroom layout, new bathroom sink, change flush through bog to face t'other way, new flooring all through, reseal stove door, paint all the outside, rewire engine bay, gas locker needs de-rusting and painting internally, re-fit solar panel as its to high and bugs me and fit new gas oven.....
Not to much then.
Anyone wanna buy a boat?

If I'm spared, I'm working until the weekend the clocks go forward (24/25 March) and then I'm setting off from Brinklow to Llangollen via the Shropshire Union canal and I'll do the Mont while I'm there. Then I'm heading back to my mooring via the Trent and Mersey and I'll spend a few days, maybe a week there. Then down to London via the Grand Union and I'm going to do Limehouse-Teddington on the tidal Thames again because I didn't learn my lesson last time. Then if I've got time I might go and visit the riff-raff on the Kennett and Avon and make supercilious and holier-than-thou posts about them, which is what you do if you went to a proper school.

What no bloodletting this year ? I guess you may be getting a bit old for violently murdering scrotes so might be best to keep a low profile and perhaps change the name of the boat to something like "Maris Piper"

As I recently bought a salty type boat my plans for this year are to do some little trips down the tidal thames to places like Queenborough and Southend and perhaps further afield. As well as annoying the ladies and gentlemen at Henley regatta which of course is on the non tidal Thames This was me at Henley regatta last year in my high class traditional vessel and stripy blazer

No scrotes on the K&A. Lovely waterway. Rog Fobney lock? There were scrotes there when I did the K&A in 2001/2002 - I believe they may have now reproduced and created more scrotes.

2918 ? no final decisions ....... but lots of options !!! job wise, at the moment I am investigating options for power steering. On passage the hand hydraulic is fine as you only use half to one turn of the wheel. Maneuvering is another story and lock to lock takes too long and makes you sweat too much. Peter can confirm !!!

Big trip for us. We are going to visit Liverpool. Only question is which way to get there. Bearing in mind we are midlands based, we have never ventured beyond Manchester, never crossed the Pennines - well, not quite true, years ago we hired on the L&L and went from Burnley to just beyond Bingley and back. So route 1 might be up the T&M, macc, peak forest, HNC/Standedge. Then the conundrum, back over the Pennines via the L&L, or via the Rochdale? Any thoughts? Either way, on to Liverpool for a few days, then back va the direct route (Bridgewater etc).

You will be doing well if you will still be considering a trip then!

I think everyone here already knows our plans: next trip to Brighouse & back, a very, very lazy holiday - it's only 5 hours or so away; then we can catch up on the list of little jobs. There are already four new LED strip lights waiting for us at the marina office, that's a first job. If it's warm enough I'd like to paint one piece of metal in the engine room. And open the gas cooker hobs to see if they need cleaning inside. And to paint the sides black again, just to hide the scratches and to make the boat look new again. There's not really much else to do, apart from enjoying living on the boat and exploring the countryside. Summer is away to the east along the Calder & Hebble, then past Wakefield and turn left at Castleford for Leeds, and get to Gargrave as quickly as possible, then to spend a whole month lurking in that area so we can explore the North-West Pennines thoroughly. I am playing with the idea of renting a car for a week so we can visit some Thunderboaters... then, like lightning, all the way back to Nantwich. I should like to give the bell ringers at Chorley a hand if we're nearby on their practice night or a Sunday morning, as they're short of ringers and are a nice bunch of folk. The Witch wants to come home early to get ready for her daughter's wedding, so I might end up staying on my own for a week and going to Chester & back, or Market Drayton & back. October is down the Shroppie.... to Otherton Marina? Otherton Marina? Lots of M6 noise and a slightly weird atmosphere. We looked at it when getting our boat built, but didn’t like it.

Leaving our Shroppie mooring in June & heading off to the Lancaster via the Ribble link.A week booked in Liverpool after that(we loved it there in 2014) & a slow meander back to the Shroppie for the beginning of October.Prior to the summmer cruise,we're heading off to the Gloucester & Sharpness for a month around March/ April after Boster has her bottom blacked...
