Does anyone know the score with the flight? There's a notice on crt website saying to conserve water the top and bottom locks are padlocked, but open between 8-9am and 2-3pm, but it was locked at 2:30 today and anyway ffs it's winter and it's been pissing down for weeks. Maybe if the fixed some of the fucked up locks I've been through in the last 2 days...one deep one filled itself in 30minutes without raising a paddle. Even the lock outside their office is fucked. I'll ring them in the morning but meanwhile if anyone knows the score I'd be grateful.

Done it 3 times, its hard work. Bully cajole and bribe others to do it for you. Or just get on with it, remember we are not here to be happy! What about the Wigan Flight Crew, don't they assist?

I've done Wigan flight once including mooring in a lock half way up due to scrotes (they aren't brave enough to board a vessel in an empty deep lock in the dark). I wish I had Mrs tabby with me but it was in 2009 before I became aware of his valuable scrote dismembering talents.

I'm just the crew, the boss hadn't done his homework and it turns out the whole flight is shut under 5th March while some lock gates are replaced.
Never mind, I quite enjoyed 8 hours in non-stop snow today. We'll have to go and get it back tomorrow.

I think the whole fucking system is being fucked by the fuckers. I've never really been anywhere very far before, but there was only one good lock out of a dozen we went through. Various things broken on all the others, water spraying out between stones everywhere. It won't be long before it's simply too expensive to fix some of it, a stitch in time would help but that's not how things are done nowadays is it.

It's a good job CRT aren't in charge of anything important! Seems like everything is closed or broken. There were some locks that simply wouldn't open without 2 paddles open, there was so much water pissing through, round and between the gates 1 paddle wasn't enough. So much for preserving water!

I don't suppose this is a surprise for most of you - views will vary from "it's always been hard work" to "CRT don't care", but I wasn't impressed with what I get for my expensive licence. Notices asking boaters to report problems must be a joke, the locks around the wigan office they can see from the window.

If marina based boaters are experiencing problems then it must be really Bad.

It's a pig of a thing with a mind of it's own but I like Brian the owners dad - he's nearly 80 and had a bad stroke a few years ago, can hardly breath due to something else but he goes at everything like a 20 year old. Fine fellow.

We had a couple of days at Wigan when we went to Liverpool in 2016.
We walked the locks and were impressed on a summer evening how smart and attractive the flight looked compared to when we worked them in 2006.
I take it the actual workings haven't improved.
Pity because we'll be heading there later in the year.

However, they've done a lot of dredging on the Rufford branch, spreading the silt over the adjoining fields. Shame about the tow path swamp and the locks, but the l&l locks were worse, apart from one that was rebuilt a year or so ago. That one showed me how the rest should be.
