so if I sell the Fabergé egg I bought at a charity shop for 75p on eBay and it achieves £5million I only pay £250 seller fees? That seems like a bargain High time to sell now, before their rules change Peter.

I believe ebay selling fees are capped at £250. must have been changed then, but can't see why every motorbike, car and boat I look at are all trying to get round not using ebay check out system or paypal if there fees are that low..

So the bidding was on 15k, the next bid was 15,200 then the 3rd bid went to 33k, so we are to beleive that one person put the bid up by almost 18k like anyone in there right mind would up the bidding by that ammount in one go. These people bidding on there own stuff need a reality check as there so obveous its laughable, plus funny to see just how stupid they are and think others are as dumb too....

It's worth understanding the auto bidding process - only highest bids are shown.

I believe you would need to be very wise indeed to involve yourself in the purchase of a boat in this manner, or conversely very, very naive.
I don't believe there is an 'easy way' to buy a boat.
You have to put the miles and the hours in, or regret it later.

It's worth understanding the auto bidding process - only highest bids are shown. Exactly this. To the O.P. High bid shown is an increment over previous high bid, say £5000, while the max bid that bidder has entered could be £30,000. When bid against, this bidder takes precedence until over their max bid. So I could come along adding bids £1000 at a time until I find their max bid and I become highest bidder, or I might cop out earlier having done nothing but help the vendor. Hope that makes sense.

Rog I bought my old widebeam off eBay, although it was only used to make initial contact. it was relatively local (Boothstown) so used eBay to make contact and went to look around at the weekend then did the deal after the auction didn't reach its reserve. I almost bought a part fitted out trad with an old lister in its engine room and diesel aga fitted in 2009, again off eBay, but bottled out on a final £35k bid on something unseen! 😔 ( boats been moored up at Penkerage line since and still isn't fitted out)

I have viewed boats off ebay, apollo duck and marinas, there is no differnce in them at all other than deposits from marinas are non refundable other than that ebay is fine same as other websites. I would only do a purchase if I was 100% happy with the boat and details and after viewing it, same as purchasing one from anywhere really as long as you stick to what you think and are happy with. I check ebay, friday ad, gumtree, apollo duck and pre loved every day and only view now and then depending on how much I want the boat. Anywhere else I should be looking ?

When I was on my way to view a boat I was interested in, to make the trip more worthwhile I stopped along the way to view one that wasn't very well listed or photographed. You can guess what happened.
In general I think badly advertised boats can be nice surprises and well photographed ones can be disappointing. Prices can be a bit random too!
Before I had the funds there were always 3 or 4 on my rolling short list. When I was ready to go there were none! It was 9 months before I found any I'd consider. Sods law innit.

That's the situation I am in now, for the last year there has been 4 boats I would have purchased & now I have the cash to spend not found a thing that I really like. Just the way it is I guess......
