Many thanks. This year's main course appears to be a bottle of WELSH Whisky! I'll try it later after I've traipsed through the snow to the local for a couple of pints of Arkell's finest for starters.
Cheers....

Can't remember the name (you'll have to remind me) but a friend gave me a taste of a Welsh malt.
I'd be interested in your views later.

This one's called 'Penderyn' bought from M&S, I think. Last year's was an English bottle and it was really smooth. Bugger it! I might have just a 'small' snifter now, to keep me warm on the way to the pub

Cheers.... Happy birthday bamber. Just one thing, do Arkell's brew a fine ale? I've tired many pubs and pints in and around Swindon, and I'm not convinced they do

Unfortunately not around now.

The Red Lion in Cricklade however!

Red Lion is a cracking micro-brewery and will allow you to sample a brew before buying a pint. I've got a reunion with some old mates planned there next month for an afternoon session. Also, the nearby butchers is fantastic. As regards the Welsh whisky, it was smooth enough and quite drinkable but had an unexpected fruit-like flavour. I'd happily drink it again but probably wouldn't buy it by choice. Give it 3 stars!

Agree with your comments on the Welsh whisky. No whisky is bad, just some is better than others Rog

My friends lived on the Cricklade Road in Swindon - They have since returned to his childhood home of Cricklade hence a 'Northerner' like me knowing the area well. We are well overdue a visit to them. Utterly impossible to drive to Cricklade and not have at least one pint in the Red Lion The Crown Inn at Cerney Wick is not a bad destination, short pedal from my mates house along the route of the old Thames and Severn Canal makes a fine excuse to go for a beer. They seem to be taking forever to finish the bridge at Cerney though.
