Although we will never stop roadkill, it does make me wonder why we don't see anywhere near as many fox, deer or sheep killed by the kerbside? deer are normally picked up by the following driver, fallen sheep are either picked up by the following driver Hopefully to be eaten and not stored as 'roadkill trophies' in a Jefferey Dahmer type way? Do the 'hills have eyes' where you live?

Do the 'hills have eyes' where you live? Well some say that there be a beast about! But I've never seen proof that can in anyway convince me about the matter. Otherwise no one (including Plod) has 'eyes' when it comes to some stuff. The wild west gets bandied about at times. Oh, and to be eaten...

I've been driving since 1974, and thus far not hit anything. I've had to take avoiding action to miss the odd pheasant, rabbit, cyclist and car, but never hit anything yet. I never take avoiding action to avoid an animal ...... (unless it's big enough to cause damage. )

The penny is beginning to drop that killing badgers isn't working, and other options are now being considered. Rog I know some that would consider Napalm as a better option.

About 16 years ago I was driving with a friend after dark in the evening in deepest, darkest rural Worcestershire, and we spotted something running along the little lane in front of us. We followed it for about a half mile. Its bum was jumping up and down and looked like the rear of a turkey, or one of those women in a wild western movie with the frilly dress fruffing it all about. We were wondering what on Earth it was! I kept my distance as I don't like to cause unnecessary stress. Then it turned sideways into the hedge and we saw its black and white noggins and I said "A badger!"
I've got nothing against badgers. They're just minding their own business.

I've nearly hit a badger several times but never actually got one, I see a lot in my area if driving home late at night. Also a lot of foxes and other fauna, it's like trying to drive home through Farthing Wood at times.
I believe badger skin makes good rugs. I've been wondering about the legality of pulling over and skinning any fresh ones I see on the side of the road.
My friend has convinced his daughter that the dead badgers you see by the road are actually sleeping wombles.

Those of you who suspect skullduggery may be on to something. You may also have observed that a high proportion of badgers meet their fate on the inside of bends where it's easier to get properly flattened by HGV's so as to obliterate any 'pre-accident' injuries.

It's an interesting one.
I've seen many dead badgers on the roadside. I've never seen a live one near a road. Well a part form the one we used to feed in the garden.
I've also don't recall seeing many flat ones.theu must make a good dent in a modern car.
I got a horse once. It ran into the side of the car and dented the corner of the windscreen with its head.
Well technically it hit me. It was ok and after a check up from the agister ran off.
Hot a deer once too. The bloke coming the other way was well happy. No damage to my car but the deer was in his boot pretty quickly.

ESKDALE, CUMBRIA Ah, the best road in the land goes through/over there, Hardknott and Wrynose Passes, with Wrynose Bottom in between. The latter caused raucouse laughter to an 8 and 4 yr old when parents read out the road signs driving through The Lakes. Taken a long wheelbase tranny over there, Last time I went over in car on my own I went for it, got boiling brake fade on the way down into eskdale. OO Errr!
