I sent Rog a message earlier asking if he wanted to meet up for a beer tonight and he replied "Sorry, no can do, I'm just off to Alperton in London with my magic piece of wire".

Alperton is horrible. But it has one other redeeming feature (the canal being the first) This I'm not religious but this is one beautiful temple...only a few minutes from the canal side Saintsbury's. Moor up do the shopping then walk towards the tube pass the station and a few moments later in the middle of bleak suburban housing this thing turns up. Its great and worth the 10 minute walk !

"It was opened in the Summer of 2010, took 14 years to build, and is made entirely of imported Indian limestone. It was constructed according to the scriptures of the Hindu holy texts, and so contains no steel supports.[5] Its site has an area of 2.4 acres (9,700 m2).[6]" en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shree_Sanatan_Hindu_MandirIts an very impressive bit of work. I believe it took a LOT of Jet A-1 to build it

Open to visitors as long as you respect the religious aspects. Wonderful place, just around the corner from where I once lived (in a not quite so wonderful place).

The rest if the area is pretty horrible. Although the canal through there has no locks so is a bit boring its actually a very pleasing bit of contour canal engineering in it's own right.

Is that the park like area just by Willowtre marina? Very popular mooring spot all year round.

We lived in Willow tree lane when we first got married and Chris worked for IBM at Sudbury Towers near Horsendon Hill. That was were I took my driving test, the test centre being almost on Horsendon Hill. Have had a few pints in the Ballot Box and also the Rising Sun my local. Oh and I remember the Pleasure Boat at Alperton when it had sawdust down on the floor. I'm trying to recall the name of another pub near Alperton that was just off the A40 Western Avenue, think it was the Nuffield Arms and it had a throw back to the days when the huge council estate was being built by Murphy's boys......they would only sell Guinness in half pints to keep the paddies out.
