Oil filter Bukh number 610J0050
The first filter that came with the boat I forget - I replaced that with a Wix filter (the first filter wasn't a Bukh one and must have had a number for cross-referencing) - and that was replaced with Bukh filters until I stuck the Mahle on last Summer. We have 2 spare Bukh engine oil filters - and I thought to order two more soon.
The Mahle engine oil filter is KC112.
It was TW Marine who are the specialists in Bukh who told us NOT to use oil filters other than Bukh because no-one apart from Bukh knows the tolerances of the release valves and stuff like that they have inside them. TW Marine are the people who rebuilt our engine from scratch, and they certainly seemed to know what they were on about, and seemed sensible. Personally I would be happy to use a Mahle Made in Austria rather than a Bukh filter Made in the Peoples' Republic of Chow Mein, but I would also feel slightly treacherous and guilty.

Thanks for that Foxy. I'll get on it tomorrow. Rest assured if I've got something suitable it won't grenade your one lung wonder

Can't understand that myself- it would be the easiest thing in the world for a rival manufacturer to buy one and take it apart to find out what the tolerances are. The filters won't be made by Bukh anyway, they will be a mass produced car oil filter churned out in the millions in slitty-eyed rice-eater land, just with "Bukh" stamped on them instead of Skoda or Leyland Daf or somesuch like the ones churned out later that day.

I might write to Bukh and say I am disappointed to see their filters are NOT made in Denmark. I could ask them about their filters and see what they have to say. On the other hand, are Mahle filters really made in Austria? It would be nice to know the truth sometimes. The only thing I can control is the quality of my own work - and I'm fairly happy with that - and so should my boss(es) be.

That's interesting, Gazza, as the Bukh is listed in the Equivalents and Applications. I should print that out and show it to TW Marine

It was TW Marine who are the specialists in Bukh who told us NOT to use oil filters other than Bukh because TW Marine sell Bukh filters at an exorbitant price and they don't want you buying the self-same thing from a motor factors at half the price. Fixed that for you.

But Nick and Steve (of TW) are not like that - they did our engine renovation at a very reasonable cost (I think) - I shall chase them up on this next time we see them. The question now is, equivalent filters, and me being me, which are the better ones...
(but I did phone a couple of weeks ago and said I'd order 2 Bukh engine oil filters + 2 fuel filters from them before this Summer, and I will do that. I think I may write to Bukh in Denmark to make them feel unpatriotic and squirm a bit - they should be giving the job of making decent filters for their engines to Danes).

My personal story about oil filters is that Rose Narrowboats sell unbranded BMC 1.5 oil filters in a plain white box for about £10, Midland Swindlers sell Fram BMC oil filters for £11.50, and I buy BMC 1.5 oil filters made by Wix in North Carolina, USA from Midland Vehicle Components in Coventry for £1.68.

Unsurprisingly I have never purchased oil and filters from a chandlery.
I'm a naughty boy and will also admit to having never purchased marine two stroke oil - low ash mineral two stroke oil suitable for garden tools and scooters being perfectly good enough if a little less palatable for the fish.

Please keep us informed of their reply to your questions! I thought they just advised you against purchasing the 'slimy Indian' manufactured & the 'chinese crap copy' ones against their 'official' 6X the price, special supplied in a plain box ones!🙄

Their 6x filters come with a free gift taped to the box, who can resist? We've already had an in-depth analysis of Crosland filters and their wide-boy owner. The proof is in the slimy pudding.

As part of the 'engine waranty' I have to use Beta branded filters.
On the plus side self servicing is okay, provided their parts are used.
The prices are ridiculous.
But the potential price of not using them is greater.

Your fuel filter:- www.inlinefilters.co.uk/Filters-Fuel/SpinOn/M16x1.5/FFR-P4520DIMENSIONS: Height: 107mm OD/Width Max: 76mm OD/Width Min: 76mm Thread: M16x1.5 The ones I have in stock (3 off):- www.inlinefilters.co.uk/Filters-Fuel/SpinOn/M16x1.5/FBW-BF1226DIMENSIONS: Height: 144mm OD/Width Max: 77mm OD/Width Min: 77mm Thread: M16x1.5 it's a larger capacity version of yours, looking at the photo you posted it's hard to say if you have 37 mm of free space between the bottom of the filter and the gearbox/bell housing. If there is enough room to fit the slightly longer filter you are welcome to them. No oil filters in our stock that are compatible, you will have to swap the Bukh for a Lombardinin if you want them
