I remembered to take a photo of the mooring terms in Ely. It's made it much easier to visit now the terminal piss takers have moved on. No ambiguity about priority between worm drowners and boaters either!

I guess that there aren't many that leave their boats longer than the allowed 48 hours at these spots.
The sign is clear enough, and you can't complain (unless you can't read), and better be wealthy if you don't respect it.
Peter.

Ely used to be a nightmare at times, it's got excellent rail links so we ended up with people living on boats as there was nothing much the EA or Ely Council could do about them. Some sighted old bylaws meant for loading and unloading commercial barges as their right to remain planted in one spot without extra cost. A boat called Bamboo was left outside the Cutter for two years until the new mooring policy came in, some local boat owners swiftly moved it off the council controlled mooring over to the other side down by the railway bridge. It was obvious that would be the first one to get hammered by the new rules.

The stretch just downstream from the railway bridge, Tesco Moorings, that was EA, then seemed to be taken over by Bridge Boats when we were last there. What is its status now that EA have sold it, or have they sold it?

What is its status now that EA have sold it, or have they sold it? Private moorings now, shame as it's cut a good chunk out of the available moorings to a visitor. That said though it was full of serial overstayers before! Bridge boatyard still have plenty of room, I think they could just do with being busier!

that's a council sign, nice and clear not like the stupid car campers signs appearing at other moorings.
maybe reading council should see how its done properly.

Fenland District Council will be doing the same in March. Not difficult to do it without rinsing the poor unsuspecting boater. The one thing that is a small pain is the no return within 48 hours regardless of length of stay. It means we do have to plan our visit rather than coming and going at will.

Similar goings on on the Thames.
I remember going up the Great Ouse with my mum in the early naughties. There were signs at the moorings with GOBA written on them. She called these the "Go Bugger Awf" moorings. We were passing through not squatting but it did not seem very welcoming.

It was just an impression we got when we arrived in our two 55ft narrow boats. Its not impossible that we were rather "aloof"

Yeh, I used to be a member of goba when we moored a boat on the ouse. That was around the 90's, and they were a bloody good organisation at the time.

I joined GOBA (on Gazza's recommendation) when I was on the Gt Ouse and I decided as it's such a worthwhile organisation, to keep my subscription going
