ive finally got round to finding some alternators that will work on an anti clockwise rotating engine. i had to go for alternators with external fans and change the fans. i had to buy two new alternators, so have ended up with two unused 120amp alternators that are no use to me. oh well ill put them up for sale on here when i get round to it. but now having got two alternators that will work ive set about making some mountings. here's one and heres its other handed brother heres a couple of images with an alternator mounted over the next week or so ill get round to welding them up and painting them. then mount them next to the engine. ill up date this thread as i do.

Nice work Kris - looks plenty strong enough.
Knock the mill scale back and jobs a good un 🔨🚢🍻👍
That Cargo gear isn't bad. I've had a couple of starters which have proved Ok, got a spare for the BMC tucked away in the bow locker.

Thanks gazza I enjoy making stuff like this but when it's hot and sweaty it's not so much fun.ill flap wheel them before welding and painting. I bpught the alternators off a local guy recommended by Tony, who's very knowledgable and friendly I'd trust his judgement. I could just do with getting an alternator spinning.

If you're talking about what you just wrote, I'll have to agree with you .

Its competent but I would have used a bottle screw arrangement as the tensioner rather than a slotted bar. Personally. A bit more complex but its a very effective way to position an alternator. Keeps the tension exactly as you want it and is easy to loosen for belt changes.

Would you have any pictures of one that you have made?

I put a bottle screw in place of a slotted bar on the alternator on my little Kubota. I didn't make up the whole mount as it was okay and I am no good at making things anyway Beta marine used a threaded rod arrangement. And some cars I think as well.

This is the best option but too expensive - a simple galvanised bottle screw does more or less the same job. Look at this on eBay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283034223206

they are easy to make I have to on my trike for steering. just welded two bolts on the end of some tubing.and screwed in those Olive joints, rubbish with technical names.

Jag XJS alternator tensioner For ideas I just think a threaded rod is likely to be more satisfactory than a slotted bar.
