If you're providing these waste bins, it's cheaper to have "chuck it all in" type bins than recycling ones. It's that simple. TBH I found when I lived in a flat, where there are communal bins, recycling seems to be low down on the agenda. Same with where one of my old friends lives..and as for food bins..they put the food into plastic bags(not the compostible ones) and then in the bin. I brought my friend the proper bags and discovered no-one else bothered. The marina here has 3 big bins. I asked what we could put in them. Anything. No recycling? I asked. We looked into it but it would cost about 3x the price. He could have been talking b*llocks of course.

He was probably telling the truth ..... at Benfleet boatyard a few years ago the owner enquired about a bottle bank (what with the resident p... heads and a club there are always a hell of a lot of bottles) He was told he would have to buy the collection bins and pay every time they were emptied as well

How much of the "recycling" actually gets recycled? None. It just gets dumped into the Indian Ocean. The Italians tried it off the west coast of Africa but got caught. We all know the truth, but prefer not to think about it. When Kim Kardashian gets buried, what will happen to all that silicone in her bum?

It is as it stands today. But I believe that as much as possible from rubbish should be processed properly. It's never going to happen though.

Who would want to do it for free? That's the problem these days, everyone wants something for free, free, free! A lot of money and effort goes into manufacturing products, you may find you may need much more labour, time and money to rip them apart and return the components to their 'natural state'. Think of all the shit Mankind has produced since the Industrial Revolution - where has it all ended up? Scary thought, isn't it? Not to mention the USA dumping tonnes of radioactive waste into the Pacific Ocean. What do you think the Chinese and Russians and Indians have done with their radioactive waste?

we send cardboard and plastic back separately.
the business makes about 100 a tonne for cardboard and a bit more for plastic. both for recycling.
we take it quite seriously at work 60% of rubbish is recycled and the other 20 % is burned to make electric.
at home we have recycle bins on fact I am pretty sure if the council don't hit recycling targets they get fined.

The figgy is in San Marino at the moment, looking for canals. The CRT boating Twitter account has gone very quiet. π
