If you only want a mooring for two or three months, why pay for the full year?
We're into our 14th year on the boat, but we only pay for three months mooring a year (Oct, Nov, and Dec in our case).
There are so many midland marinas now I would think you could negotiate (to a degree) a price for your limited mooring requirements, and if you're only paying for the period you use it'll be a lot cheaper anyway than a full years.

Rog I dunno whether Mark said it was a requirement cos of their business..if not that'd be a good idea..

If you only want a mooring for two or three months, why pay for the full year? Mark said that with Ellis being a hotel boat CRT require the boat to have a permanent home mooring. I don't know how interested CRT would be in the boat actually spending time on that mooring, but if they aren't overly bothered then a ghost mooring would seem to be the ideal solution.

Thanks for that, but it seems odd that a business as a hotel boat should need a 12 month mooring. Holidays cruising is, after all, what they're selling.
Our home mooring according to C&RT is Saltisford, even though we're only there 3 months a year and they know that.

thanks for the replies fellas - we'll go through them again later and see if anything might fit... ideally we wont want to actually use the mooring - perhaps only turn up for a couple of months mid winter so location isn't really so important. Tony's mooring sounds ok, maybe a decent set of M/T tyres for the RAV4 lol I'd forgotten that was how I got the poo tank to the boat - alas, the Rav is now gone... stuck with a primera estate ... that we mainly use as a shed now ...

If the Chinese can have see-through bridges, why does no-one build boats with see-through floors? If the toilet tank was also made of glass, you could see when it's getting too full.

No problem, pimp your ride, a front wheel drive car with a set of winter boots will go well if driven sensibly - I got an Astra estate most of the way round the perimeter of a damp Long Buckby motocross track

No problem, you don't go where you will get stuck! I've never been on the end of a rope... I even made it up the start hill with all the heavy shock cord start gate gear in the back - top left of picture. I had to do it in reverse as there wasn't enough traction on the front wheels with a well loaded boot. My friend was circling like a vulture in his Jeep Cherokee hoping beyond hope he'd have to drag me back up - honour intact after a flat out reverse up the hill
