Well the report is due out tomorrow. It's a huge long thing with lots of detail but we already know that Blair is culpable. It would be a bit harsh to blame everything that's happened since on him, who could have guessed that the aftermath would result in hundreds of thousands of people dying, along with the displacement of millions. But a country's leader is in a position of responsibility. He needs to be accountable for his actions.
I've few doubts that the establishment will ensure that Blair is free to carry on with his public life. This is a travesty. If he doesn't stand trial for war crimes he should at the very least receive some kind of public condemnation; one that will make his best option to quietly live out his life without constantly giving his opinions on matters such as world peace and Brexit.
Personally I think the man is a monster and so self obsessed that he can't even see the obvious thing: that he should be keeping a low profile just now. I would love to see him at The Hague, his darting devil eyes and clipped tone bullshit no defence to the logic of hard evidence, and for him to then spend the rest of his life in prison.

I think we all know it's going to be a complete and total whitewash. The man deserves exactly what happened to the defendants at the Nuremburg trials, to exit this world on the end of a rope.

I'd fuckin love to see that, even though I'm against capital punishment. I'd volunteer to put the hood over his head so the last words he hears would be along the lines of "sleep well you slimey cunt".
Back in the real world though. Could he really get off scot free and carry on working in public life?

Today I have been talking to an ex NCO who was there. He was more interested in botched military decisions by high ranks (use of snatch landrovers instead of warriors, the missing body armour, the insistance on the roadside bombs being IED's when there was evidence that they were military shaped charges. evidence of very up to date arms being supplied from European manufacturers right up to the commencement of hostilities, etc. etc.)
very illuminating

Don't forget he will have seen the draft, been entitled to comment / request change (probably via his lawyers). His current behaviour is not of a chap about to be hung out.

I live in hope though, I did the first Gulf war which was a mess as well, but that was of Americas making, sticking noses in when they shouldnt, at least this time they had help to make it a huge horlicks

I find it a bit difficult to feel sorry for people who join the army (whose primary raison d'etre is to kill the enemy), get trained up and paid at taxpayers expense, and then get all whiney when they actually have to put all that into practice. What does one expect when joining the army - that it's going be all about bromance and free grub?

Listening to Blair now, he sounds close to tears. He's a good actor then, as well as being a first class terrorist.

Almost his first words were "I accept full responsibility". In the 40 minutes since then he's backtracked and is now in the process of absolving himself from responsibility. He's also tactfully rubbished some aspects of the report.
He's been talking for 45 minutes now. In that time he's barely mentioned the human cost of his actions. No mention of families of British soldiers, no mention of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, and others, who have died as a result of his actions. I can only conclude that Blair is a heartless egotist that views his own career and public standing as being more important than the suffering of millions of people. He's a fuckin animal.
