I reckon the story here is that dickhead cyclists are cycling where cycling is "prohibited" such as a footpath. This old geyser probably has some issues and rants a bit. Nothing unusual about that but some scum cyclist has decided it would be amusing to "bait" him with predictable consequences. Its a sport I guess. Very sad really but there you are. I wonder if the old git had had a camera how quickly the cyclist would have disappeared. I wonder if its even legal to put a video of an individual in their own home like that or is it an invasion of privacy. Its not like they met on the path. The bloke never stepped far from his house. did you read the comments on the facebook page. There where people suggesting going for a group ride to wind the old guy up. It is disgusting, there is a lunatic fringe in the cycling community.

Said before... but here we go again... I consider myself a 'cyclist' in perhaps what now is 'the old meaning', using a bike to get from place to place, and for trips, day trips with a saddlebag and sandwiches, or week-long cycle touring holidays with panniers (camping or Youth Hostelling) weaving along little lanes trying to keep away from the bulk of car traffic. It's the aggressive Lycra-clad gits who have caused most of this woe, just a case of'one-upmanship'; I've got a better bike than you, I've got a better cycling outfit than you, look at my fancy helmet, look at my fancy sunglasses, my willy is much bigger than yours! Then there are the off-road bikes with no mudguards zooming along and churning up towpaths (boaters having to pay for the repairs, not the bikers) and public footpaths, and ripping the grass off hillsides. Yes, absolutely, insurance should be compulsory for cyclists, based on their potential threat to others; people like me, Β£1 per year, eh? Very unlikely to bump into things meandering along observing the countryside. The filthy mud-splattered mountain bike brigade is not so easy to assay, but the Lycra-scum should pay the same as someone driving a Porsche sports car as we know it's "all for show" - in fact more, as cyclists swoop upon you almost silently.
I'm afraid the only answer is to quickly put a lock around their spokes so their bike is incapacitated, then call the Police, as in cases like this:

I didn't read any of the comments on facebook.
I think as mentioned previously there is quite a serious generation problem as well.
The old bloke is from the days when you were physically punished for misdemeanors. The cyclist is probably from the modern days where physical punishment is not acceptable.
This is why he was waving his fist around. The obvious problem is the cyclist could have been quite fit and in a superior position in the event of a punch up.
And of course the cyclist is from the generation that think this sort of baiting behaviour is acceptable. It is not acceptable and it is quite a sad indictment of society. A window on the world perhaps. Or is it just cyclists.
I'm pretty sure there is a generation who have never been disciplined in any way so they do not understand acceptable behaviour. Therefore they default to arsehole behaviour. Anyone can be an arsehole its not difficult.
Obviously its a sad result of social media as well.
I think its quite concerning.

It is disgusting, there is a lunatic fringe in the cycling community. No, not lunatic, just Hooray-Henries and Henriettas who have too much money. In the 1970s my dad invited me a couple of times to join him for Sunday morning rides with The Hertfordshire Wheelers cycling club, and you can spot these folk for what they are straight away - the "I'm alright Jack, I've got the money and a shiny expensive bike, and mine is more expensive than yours". Cycling for itself doesn't come into it, it's all social competition and snobbery. You get this on the canals too, of course, but canal boats don't normally zoom along at 20-40mph and there are rarely persons standing on the water. Tixall Wide on a windy day

If you like it or not foxy cycling has become an issue and not just on towpaths. I'm a cyclist so it concerns me, there will have to be some legislation at some point.

You might be surprised of the outcome if it did end up in a fight. Ok, people go to martial art classes etc, but we also have a generation growing up who have never experienced a punch up first hand. No class would prepare you for an old guy (who probably has had years of experience fighting) lashing out with no notice. It is a pendulum thing. I think the PC brigade , elf and safety, minority rule etc, has swung too far one way. We have the same feelings we had thousands of years ago, if we canβt express it the simple direct way, then it comes out in other ways like depression, anxiety, suppressive feelings. I had a few punch ups when I grew up, some I won and some I lost. They all taught me something. In fact one lad became a good friend! The name and shame, dirty washing in public social media stuff is wrong. Itβs the cowards way out. If someone has the balls, do it face to face in private.

If you have a nice little cottage on a lane and its pleasant then the arrival of cyclists could have a very negative impact.
Its possible that this bloke has lived there for years in peace then at some point someone got a route up on Waze or whatever and all of a sudden he has the tour de France coming past trying to flatten him as soon as he walks out of his door. I think that would be very damaging to your quality of life.
Obvious answer is to move but that is not easy for older people.

The obvious thing would be to require people to be insured and wear a hi viz jacket with a registration number. Like cars. That way the person is traceable not the bike. With penalties for non compliance, obviously. Shouldn't be too complicated to sort it.

The you get 'cyclists' following Eurovelo routes as if they are handed down from Moses's walk up Great Gable - they're just invented by some twerp in an office (funded by the EU no doubt), you don't have to slavishly adhere to these routes, get yourself a map in paper form and you can go where you fancy. 'Euro routes' mean nothing to me.

All I need is a length of piano wire at neck height and a big freezer. It's the freezer I can't afford at the moment, maybe you would like to invest? The business plan is pretty sound, obviously just taking out the Lycra loonies. The idea is to sell the bikes on gum tree and the body parts I've got a man who will collect. Should be a good business all in all, make some money and rid the towpaths of some dickhead cyclists.

Any Chinese or Indian restaurant will have those body parts in a jiffy curry.
