Farmers bridge is a lovely flight of locks. I've not been through there since the late nineties but I do remember it as being very pleasant. Yes I find it fascinating. You are down the 18th century, with layers of 19th, 20th and 21st centuries above. And it is pretty rubbish-free for an urban canal, plus lots of interested towpath walkers. Rubbish free due to CRT litter pickers.Guess what my dearly beloved was doing this morning on one of his volly days... *He litter picks the canal & the towpath.

Yes I know, seen him driving Aquarius before. More power to his elbow! Unfortunately by the time you get to the bottom of Aston it is Plastic Bag City but at least the centre and hence most of Farmer’s Bridge is pretty good. As we came though Aston lock 5 a cyclist coming the other way carrying one of those fast food polystyrene food containers, simply took out his burger and dropped the polystyrene container on the ground. Having assessed his dangerousness (low) I called to him “What makes you think it is OK to drop your litter on the ground?” But he grinned and cycled on. Jeff was a few yards away and said much the same thing. Probably had no impact. Unfortunately in this country we tolerate littler dropping (along with being drunk and disorderly) despite both being criminal offences. If we had zero tolerance and made an effort to fine people who just let their litter drop from their hands, the country would be much the better for it.

Zero tolerance - no thanks - sounds just like CWDF... Why, do you drop litter? How do you feel about zero tolerance to child abuse? Against that too?

Zero tolerance - no thanks - sounds just like CWDF... Why, do you drop litter? Yes occasionally by accident, sometimes I let the dog poop in the woods without picking up, other times I leave the boat with the dog and without a poo bag (now an offence in some places). If society wishes to treat me as a criminal for these offences then I'll judge society for what I think about that.

And on a more boaty related theme - tomorrow I need to phone CRT to see if they will allow me to overstay - parts on order but won't be ready until Weds at earliest - a bit of lee way can go a long way...

In other words, you like to pick and choose those laws you obey and those you ignore. Are you related to Prince Philip by any chance? Obviousky we can all accidentally drop a bit of litter, but there is a big difference between that and just walking or cycling along, picking your burger out of its plastic container and deliberately chucking the container to the ground.

I'm all for zero tolerance with respect to dog owners and their lackadaisical approach to their dog's crap. If they are too irresponsible to clear up after their dog, ( in your case, to go back and get a doggy bag or a sheet of newspaper), then they really don't possess the relative attitude to own a dog!
Irresponsible bunch of twats!

If you own a dog, you are morally obliged to clear up after it, If you cant be arsed, whether you have a doggy bag or not, you are an irresponsible twat!

It's got do with the law and zero tolerance. In some places (increasing), if I get off the boat with the dog and forget the poo bags I've already committed an offence and if zero tolerance is applied I should pay the fine. Doesn't matter even if I pick up the shite with my hands I've still committed a crime.
