Ormelites .... built by Orme and son built in the 60s and 70s in Leicester (I was told they closed down in the early 80's)
The company started originally building wooden boats but moved on to GRP building 2 models based on the same hull, one centre cockpit the other aft cockpit powered originally by Stuart Turner/Ford Anglia/Renault diesel engines. Extremely heavy and very well executed lay up and extensive use of hardwood for framing etc. The best layout for a small cruiser I have ever come across. They were very expensive boats for their size ..... in the 60's you could literally buy a house for the same money
BMC diesel is a big engine for that hull and I didn't think it would be possible to fit a BMC 4cyl engine without ruining the layout

Can't help, but welcome to the premier politics and moped forum.
Hope you stick around and join in.
Just curious, but have you run out of time, funds or intetest for the boat?

A 1.5 BMC (captain?) Is quite a large unit. I guess someone took out the twin Stuart Turner and wanted diesel. 1.5 BMC units are readily available and not expensive so they find their way into boats which are of really suitable.

Stuart Turner also had 2 pot diesel engines, really simple and bomb proof, had one in one of my dayboat. Phil

Yes but I'm pretty sure the STs in the Ormelite would have been their 2 stroke petrol units.
Here's a lovely example of one of their diesel units
