I wonder why everyone has abandoned the thread. We are entertaining our guests, who are cycling to North Cape first, before cycling back through Sweden to Paris. I have just introduced them to the Moomins: www.narvelos.frNow, if I went to see someone who lived in the woods and they said "Now after tea I'm going to show you my collection of Moomins" I might be a tad concerned.

One of these (Tim) came with me to work this morning to study 'the Finnish wildlife' (kids on my bus). I would love a decent HPV kind of why I have a recumbent.

We gave them a luxurious breakfast, including porridge and arctic cloudberry jam, and they were off around 1pm - to Ylivieska, only about 3 hours' cycling from here. Nice lads. The French often seem to be adventurous. They have been working and saving and paying for this trip themselves. They liked Loddon's clip of Macron

Pirkko saw today that they're in the national newspaper Iltasanomat, and also that the other two French guys we had staying here Tues & Wed nights have met these three (who stayed with us Sunday night). www.is.fi/oulun-seutu/art-2000006099813.html

I've been past North Cape a few times .... in fact a few too many times .... I have no desire to repeat the experience yet again. It was usually dark and the weather was always rough to bloody rough with snow as an occasional bonus (Iron ore run, Swansea/Cardiff to either Kirkenes or Murmansk)

It was my first trip away up there in over 20 years and now Im winding down the travel thought Id include a repeat of that trip.

I would think in summer it would probably be better .... we used to only get that run in the winter, heaven help us. Summer, if we went North was into the Baltic to usually Oxelosund in Sweden or a couple of times to Hanko in Finland. More often it was to Sept Isle in Canada (up the St Lawrence) eta also used to get to Narvik every now and again as well as occasionally more exotic runs Vitoria (Brazil) Avilles, Gijon and El Ferrol del Caudillo in Spain
