Granary wharf, Leeds dock or what? If we get much more rain over the next few days, you'll be able to get your boat across C&RT's Leeds office car park and tie it up to the entrance doors. I'm sure the CEO won't raise any objections to you doing this, . . he's a bit pre-occupied with other things at the moment !

We like being moored outside the Hilton Hotel, (using their wifi) near the bottom lock ... get the sun there too whilst it can be deep in shadow on the jetties. The Armoury moorings are very busy and have electric hook up too (no use to us) but quaysider has used them and I believe would recommend them. As peterboat says, the Royal Armouries museum is well worth several hours if you're into history at all. Leeds is a terrific city Telemachus ... we had a terrific stay last year. Rog

A short walk from the Armouries in the direction of the bus station is a covered market which is worth a visit especially when it is quiet. the building is a fantastic example of victorian ornate cast iron work ..... superb if you are into architecture
(I'm annoyed because I am damned if I can remember what it is called)

The Cornmarket is a terrific building (great guitar shop)
The indoor market is a must.
The alleyway pubs off Briggate (4 or 5 ) make a wonderful pub crawl.
Great places to dine, and good shops if that's your thing.
You can water taxi from river lock to the armouries and back (free last year, but I think £1 a trip now).

Leeds is great but I prefere to moor in granary wharf rather than the armouries but it's personal choice really.

Yeah too busy telling the world they have enough money and maintenance was not an issue on tv Yes, . . Parry's 'rabbit in the headlights' interview on Newsnight was far more revealing than he would have wanted it to be ! If, as he claimed last night, they aren't underfunded for the job they've been charged with doing, then the only alternative explanation for their abject failure as the custodians of our inland waterways is that they're simply not up to the job ! The present problems with the dam are the predictable, and preventable, consequences of neglect of a strikingly similar nature to that which led to the Middlewich breach. At Middlewich the towpath had settled/sunk allowing water to run over the top edge of the steep earth embankment and soak the surrounding ground until it became unstable enough to slip. At Whaley Bridge the same situation is in the process of developing, the only difference being that this time the cracked bottom of a concrete spillway, with trees growing through the cracks, is doing the job that the sunken towpath did at Middlewich.

We’ve got in to Leeds Dock / Armoury, but only just, after another boat kindly moved right up fenders touching. It all seems a bit daft that despite the huge size, there are only visitor moorings for 4 boats. The end of the pontoon is for the water taxi (even though it’s not signed) and the pontoons opposite are for permanent moorers only, even though they are half empty. There are also extensive pontoons, some with power bollards, the other side of the lift bridge and therefore inaccessible. What a waste of money!
Granary wharf was pretty chokka too, although we could probably have got into the little side arm next to river lock.
