To be fair to Foxy: I know some find his humour (many of his posts are in at least semi-jest) oversteps their mark but without him this forum probably wouldn't exist any more. I find the casual racism that he spouts to be very offensive "This is the most disturbing part of current internet culture – the moral grandstanding, hyper offence taking, the pearl clutching, attempts to assert one’s moral superiority over someone else who’s been deemed a wrong thinker. The people who engage in these speech policing activities are desperate to signal their moral virtue, and the way they do this is by identifying someone as being racist or bigoted and denouncing them publicly so as to make themselves seem superior. They feel especially validated when they have the backing of their peers and when they get to speak on behalf of a minority group, even going so far as to be offended for that minority group. By claiming someone else is an unclean heretic they make themselves seem clean by comparison. It’s such as odious tactic especially when there’s literally zero effort required and no social cost in doing so."

On the other hand he has spent a fair amount of time promoting the forum. Also, when nobody else bothers to post anything, Foxy will often step in. There are thousands of forums out there 'last posting 7 days ago'. Thankfully, this isn't one of them. If this forum needs foxy to post to keep it going then it's fucked. How many people has he put off posting? Millions, I shouldn't wonder. I'd say more are put off by your swearing, kris.

Whilst I agree there are people on forums that look for stuff to be offended by, we must all remember that if a forum is unmoderated it does not give the poster the right to post stuff that is against the forum T&Cs or breaches the uk law on hate speech etc. Just saying.

Talking of T&Cs, CRT's T&Cs include displaying a valid licence for the use of the waterways under their authority. A few here think little of T&Cs when it comes to displaying a valid licence, eh? Burnt kettle and black pot and all that.

Oh at least I don't have a problem with your posts when they are your own words (although sometimes I may disagree.) The posts I find offensive are some of the cut and paste items from some IMHO ...... fairly unsavoury sources

You've missed the bit about small minded little men using it as an opportunity to big themselves up by bullying posts. Aside from that foxes do seem to be creatures of habit, planning every little move, to feel secure and happy. When something new comes along, unplanned, disturbing the order of things, they get all snarly and bitey.

Unwelcome to Romans sock puppet. Unwelcome? Because my first post doesn’t fit the new, rather sickly, ethos of TB, or because you think I might be a bully? t This is thunderboat, unmoderated and with no new ethos ... it is what it always has been ... welcome to the forum. Knock yourself out ... be as unpleasant as you like ... use rude words to show how grown up and mature you are. Alternatively try to get along and enjoy the 'virtual' company ... there are some terrific folks here. Your choice. Rog

There wasn't an ounce of racism in her but I bet that would be viewed as a racist comment these days.

Rog No thanks, Ive no desire to hold hands and chat inanities or to be loudly arrogant and overbearing, and certainly no wish to listen to the same cross forum posters incessantly cry “bully and abuse” So thank you for the “unwelcome” and the rather threat laden “welcome to the forum” but I don’t believe TB “is what it always has been” It has become a group of ‘nice terrific’ people who would rather declare somebody a cretin or a mong and gang to rip apart fellow members who dare to upset the ‘nice terrific’ people for posting garbage. Hypocrisy? You are welcome to it. seeing as you weren’t part of this from the start you have no real room to criticise - FYI thundeboat wasn’t started to give a few racist bigoted morons a platform to peddle their own special brand of shite - Delta9 created so those that were banned from cwdf had a place to chat about the things the snowflakes on cwdf couldn’t bear to have them discuss. That a couple of posters on here are intent on fucking it up is a sad thing indeed. Being a member of Thundeboat isn’t a badge of honour showing how edgy and out there you are, it has grown into a place worth visiting for boating info and friendship virtually or actually in the real world. Thankfully more than a couple of us are sick to the back teeth of the wankers intent on ruining it.

Back then that was possibly ok, but now it is a racist comment. If she were not a racist then she would not say it today. Strangely enough she died 4 years ago today (uncertain date it might have been the 12th she was not contacted on 11th or 12th but found on the 12th). She was a bit old fashioned but definitely not racist. I think you are wrong to assume that people using old fashioned expressions are racist by definition. That's too simple.
