I tried just to copy and paste the photo, but I didn't seem to be able to do that. Basically it's an interesting snippet in private eye about how transparent crt are about the failures in infrastructure.

I'm certainly interested. It's encouraging to hear that crts deliberate maintenance failures are getting an airing outside of boating forums where, lets face it, they have limited readership.

Yes I found it interesting, unfortunately I don't seem to be able to sort the link out and think you might have to be a member of Facebook (definately not recommended) I seem to remember foxy is into private eye, so he might make himself useful and take a photo of the snippet and post it on here? Ido wonder if there is a boater who works at private eye?

One problem here is CRTs willing multi million pound expenditure on these catastrophic events just gives them more PR excuse NOT to do basic maintenance...as in stating they can't afford it. I'm with MM, they must be loving it. The only downside from the crt perspective on this one is they can't blame boaters or vandals, this one they will HAVE to take on the chin. It will be interesting to see if it can be kept in the public eye as well as private eye and how crt will attempt to shift the blame elsewhere. I suspect they will be as quiet as a mouse can be and refuse both to discuss it and answer any FOI whether or not they are legally obliged.

Let's hope so, I agree this is the kind of publicity event they love. But this time they don't seem to have started a fund raising campaign to fund the repairs. To be honest the government are as much to blame as cart, when cart was established the government Vermont agreed to a 15% decrease in the maintenance budget year on tear for the first 15years(it was either 15% or20%) Anyway how cart have achieved this is to stop all preventative maintenance and outsource all of the major repairs. As we all know these are very short term superficial ways to save money and will ccontinue me back and bite them hard. But part of the reasoning by cart must be that failures like this will keep them in the public eye.

But I suspect there is no much to hide in that they will (as they already have done) state that highly skilled independent dam inspector stated last November that everything was fine. However I do think we need to see the full inspection report, as until it is published there will be doubts.......

It seem that CRT have stopped answering my requests about the Middlewich Breach, my last answered emails were answered tersely, "monitoring".
The aqueduct over the A530 road which was in the repaired length is still leaking badly onto the roadway, the entire brick arch is soaked permanently.
Winter approaches, it will not be kind to this aqueduct. Perhaps they are hoping for a rapid advance of global warming?

I notice the reference to 'cracks and vegetation' at Toddbrook. I have no axe to grind either way, but I have to observe that I have not seen any evidence of cracks in the concrete (before the event) - only the joints between the concrete slabs. Nor do I recognise that vegetation (i.e weeds rather than shrubs and trees) will have any particular deleterious effect on the integrity of the spillway paving.
Can anyone provide any evidence for either of these factors?
