Had to leave the boat moored at Alrewas due to lock closures. Despite being close to other boats and properties some pikey b******s broke in.Got a call from police saying mooring ropes had been cut but they managed to pull it to towpath. Forced entry to stern.Had to drive 3 hrs back to assess damage. It had to be boaters as they knew what they were after, batteries, invertor, mooring pins, windlasses, tiller arm, ropes etc B******s even took the dogs life jackets and the kettle.Fortunately didn't take starter battery so was able to take to mooring. Police absolutely useless, said impossible to find culprits so just contact insurance company. Absolutely gutted.
Just added a BIG thanks to all who respond(Ed) Don't want to be rude if I miss anyone out!!

I'm very sorry for your trouble ... I know from personal experience how devastating it can be. I hope your insurance company now prove their worth. I know it's no consolation today, but at some point you'll have a tale to tell over a pint. No one was hurt ... it's only 'stuff'. But today I know the anger and frustration you feel. Good luck Rog

That's very nasty.
Unpleasant to think of other boaters doing this. You expect it from pikeys coming by vehicle but another boat is not good.
I wonder if it was vandalism and the windlasses etc have been thrown in the canal.

That is just horrible I know how gutting it is when your stuff is stolen..thing is if they don't intend it for another boat it fetches way under its value.. I hope the insurance pays out and covers everything... Did any other boaters see anything?

There are s,e scummy bastards around unfortunately. At least youve got your boat. Around here recently there has been a crew of bastards nicking boats plastic cruisers and narrowboats. The police where useless, even when an owner of one of the boats phoned them saying he knew where his boat was. They only became interested when he said he was going to physically remove the towrag from his boat. He got his boat back but with all the exspensive stuff gone and painted in emulsion. The towrag is still around on a stolen plastic cruiser. Crt are aware but they are doing very little as well. So. I know its no consolation now but at least youve still got your boat.

1. How about making a complaint about the Police? We watch Endeavour and Midsomer Murders and know they can find the guilty persons if they really want to.
2. No evidence it was 'pikeys'/'travellers'. If boaters, then probably those without a licence, and they wouldn't be around if CRT pulled their filthy boats off the canals and crushed them (with the owners inside).
3. Go and steal dogless's ropes and windlasses and batteries and kettle... then he will "have a tale to tell over a pint" - I mean, it's only stuff, isn't it?

We should appoint dogless as Chief Inspector of Investigations. He's perfect for the job. Who knows more about boat heists. It takes a thief to catch a thief.

Excelled yourself there Foxy, you idiot. Sorry to hear of your aggro jubjub Its a pain when crap like this happens many years ago we lost a caravan and its entire contents and that really was pikeys. Alrewas is such a nice spot too, somewhere you would expect a boat to be safe, especially when other boaters are about.

Two at Willington, one at Foxton. All areas thought of as safe. Hope you can get sorted with the minimum of hassle Jubjub.

nasty news jubjub ..... there are some really disgusting toerags around, unfortunately even among boaters. Sorry to hear ...... it's nasty, it winds you up inside and leaves a bad taste in the mouth. it's not something you can come to terms with quickly and easily. Hope your insurance deals with it quickly and fairly

So what's wrong with moaning at the Police if they can't be arsed; jubjub describes them as "absolutely useless, said impossible to find culprits".
How is this so difficult?
I bet everyone in that area knows who the scummy bastards are. Can't be hard to track them down.

Endeavour and Midsummer Murders are drama ... fiction ... not real. The thieving scum are responsible for jubjub 's pain, not the Police. My boat was broken into and precious stuff stolen in 2009 ... nothing recovered ... no one caught. Painful as it was at the time, it was simply 'stuff' ... no one died ... no one was hurt ... and later, after the insurance largely performed as we hoped, we have a tale to tell but the pain has diminished. I hope jubjub has as positive an experience with his insurance. Rog
