Good luck and I hope the weather is kind to you. I dread when I have to give up boating a long way away I hope Thanks Peter, the message to give up came as a clap of thunder when I found myself face down on the towpath betwixt two locks. Body decided the legs had had sufficient unto the day. Luckily friends of mine at Calcutt Boat came to the rescue. Told I was ashen. A foot or so the wrong way and I would have been in the cut with no strength to pull myself out. So the decision was an easy one, one thing for friends to respond to a telephone call, another for them to haul me lifeless out of the pound. Lovely to have friends who ride to the rescue. Lovely people.

Well, Graham, if you ever find yourself/yourselves where we are, welcome to spend a day or so with us cruising the Cut in our tub. Llangollen Canal this Christmas, Leeds & Liverpool June-July 2017. We don't mind if you want to drive and work the locks, we're happy to stand by and just supervise.

We don't mind if you want to drive and work the locks, we're happy to stand by and just supervise. Thank you very much for your kind offer. Unfortunately, I can no longer get on and off a boat with the ease need to work locks etc, that is why I have had to give in and retire from the cut. Even helming is only just doable, it is disability catching up with me. Think I am consigned to the bumpy water brigade, no locks etc. Thanks again

Yep open the brochure or watch the video it goes bow to stern, and includes, apparently, the sound of a cold Lister putting away. Can't hear the sound track on my phone.

I had a look and that looks like a nice way of presenting a boat, apart from the bit at the end of the video where the camera chappie mentions the smoke from the engine exhaust and says "all old diesels smoke" - ours doesn't, and is 30 years old (little Bukh DV10 one cylinder) which was renovated last year. For the engine hours it says 'not recorded' in the brochure; as a buyer, I'd like to have some basic information about the engine's service history, I think that's one of the most important things - the engine is the heart of the boat and a buyer is going to think "am I going to have that out and have the pistons and rings and cylinder liners replaced, and all the engine bearings?". Just saying - you asked! Otherwise, looks like a nice clean boat. Good luck!

I have logs going back to her launch which together with my usage give a figure of 7000 hours. So she is young yet. I think he started the engine on full throttle and pulled it back to tickover when she roar away hence the white smoke and filmed. After warm up there is just a haze out of the exhaust. Lovely engine. Oh another thought, they did not put the exhaust cover on after they moved her and it has rained and it is vaporising the water on the exhaust system. I will check to morrow as I am going up to touch up some paint work. Thanks for the comments

I wasn't saying there was anything wrong with the engine, and I'm not sure I even noticed the smoke - but that he shouldn't have mentioned it. I'd say, so long as there are some kind of records as to the engine's service history, and it starts fine and isn't blowing out smoke when warmed properly, that's a big help. We don't count the hours on our engine, but I do change the oil often (too often! but I like changing it) and make notes of when that was done.

Plenty of receipts which if anyone goes through them, plus the logs. They go back pre-launch even photos of the base plate being layed down. I think it was one of the best documented boats I saw when I was hunting for her.

Lovely looking boat Graham, you must be sorry to see her go. If I was ready to upgrade now I'd be along to view her in a heartbeat.
