Well said Trina ... I too find the 'can I get' question at shops/cafes etc. extremely irritating for no obvious reason. I'm always tempted to shout "No, tell them what you want and they'll get it for you." but I have managed to resist thus far. Rog It realllllly annoys me !π‘ I'm waiting for the day when the person behind the counter invites them to get what they want, while they go & have a rest...

But nobody puts One times more on anything, they say +1 extra. Which is correct. some people might - how can you rule it out?Β Β it is just awkward to say.Β Β one times something is clearly 100% of something - and saying 100% more is absolutely unambiguous. think of it another way - if I said one third more you would not conclude that I meant one third of what we started with, rather that I meant the original PLUS one third. The rules of maths are that one times anything is still anything, nothing more. And naughtyfox it's Bogof, not bogo. So bogoff with your foreign interpretations of our culture.

Talking of oil... "people shared the photograph which shows three children extracting water from a well in the Yukon Territory in Canada, in 1898. Standing in the foreground of the image is a young girl who looks eerily similar to 16-year-old Swedish climate change activist Greta (pictured right). The photograph was discovered in the picture archives of the University of Washington, and social media users were quick to share their conspiracy theories - with many claiming Greta is a time traveller sent from the future to save us." www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-7702261/Old-photo-girl-1898-sparks-claims-Greta-Thunberg-time-traveller-sent-save-us.html

Surely that's the wrong way around. Sent from the past seems more logical.

Funny how the marketers latched onto the term "Bogof" and it became humourous. Another problem with these type of "offers" is that they discriminate against people who specifically only wanted one item. What really gets my goat is the liberal misuse and the word "free". It's just so toweringly unacceptable in every conceivable way. If I see BOGOF I buy another brand or summit similar cos I don't need 2 of most stuff, got no storage and hate clutter whatever it is.. In fact I'd rather not bother at all..

You will find an overwhelming majority opinion from learned sources that one times more is double and two times more is triple. ............... but it seems you would prefer to stumble along with imprecise definitions and misleading use of our beautiful language. so be it.

I just wish it was x 1 rather than to the power of 10. Maths is maths, it is how it is. One More, is clear English, one times more is nonsense.
