It is a shame that anyone has to complicate a simple bit of fun ... people always let you down Rog

Calm down dears! Nothing has been ruined or lost. The photos are still up, the voting process still works. Wait until the last day.

Etymology of a Vote ... mine. I started off with good intentions of voting quickly so that I couldnt be swayed by my own prejudice, so I voted for the one that seemed the most evocative to me. Then I heard some patronising explanations as to how I should look at a photograph and continued to outline in detail what I should be looking for with regard to a winning picture. I decided to change to the picture I liked when it first came in, its composition was clever, showing a maximum of boats. Chatter came in about titles needed and then what camera had been used and so I swapped to one with a good back story. Woe tripped me up when it became apparent some had used filters and photoshop tricks, plunging me into further quandry, so I firmly told myself my first good intention should stand. Sadly I listened again to some pretty nasty gutter gobshite and felt disinclined to give my valuable reward. So I chose a sharpish sort of image seemingly a portrayal of the very canal life I love. Ultimately the unhappy comments I had not wished to garner had swelled into a chorus of disdain and disavowal. So I took my vote out entirely. I do have a habit of changing my mind! Sincere apologies. (Please can we have a secret ballot next year, and preferably one we cant change once we've made it!) Reading that, I don't think it's the competition that is the issue.

(Please can we have a secret ballot next year, and preferably one we cant change once we've made it!) That will be up to whoever organises it next year, I feel that organisation of the photo competition should rotate among members so that it is carried out by a different member every year.

No, that a simple bit of fun should cause such grief.

The camera thing was me, an innocent question because some of the photos were technically very good. Photography interests me.

It is that simple. The 'messing around' switching votes etc. is I believe what causes the irritation. It's not important, but it is simple. Rog It's lost all credibility as a bit of a competition now anyway, which is a shame. The usual trio playing with their sock puppets have childishly wrecked it for what, attention seeking? Excuse me but I only placed one vote

Excuse me but I only placed one vote It is a wry observation that a person who has specialised in 'sock puppets' now accuses others of the misbehaviour he indulges in.

I do think it is ok to ask about the technical aspects of photos entered as long as it's done fairly considerately. At the time of my enquiring about filters and effects there were two front runners in the poll who both seem to take their photography quiet seriously - I thought it was ok to comment about those photos.
All has changed now with the voting, I'm sorry if my input to the thread has disrupted the voting.

Back down to 38 voters and @someboater now snapping at naughtyfox 's heels when he was previously a clear leader. I have no idea what's going off ... but if the shenanigans make someone smile, all is not wasted. Rog
