So then John, are we to have your presence on the Great Ouse this summer? We had our first shakedown cruise this week. No nasty surprises, but in typical boat fashion another £100 has gone West in the never ending quest for a finished article (it will never happen I know - but Mrs Gazza seems to think it will....) Couple more weekends and before you know it we will be off for the flatlands of PhilShire Well you'll get my presence. I'm aiming for somewhere near Haughton Lock, for a maximum permittable stay, whilst I visit an old RAF buddy and take them boating. All EA and GOBA moorings are 48 hours. Doesn't stop people taking the piss though.....

Couple more weekends and before you know it we will be off for the flatlands of PhilShire Definitely !! It is a few weeks later than intended but I am looking forward to exploring. There looks to be plenty of quiet byways for an old codger to wander around for a few weeks, before heading upstream for more energetic boating. Hopefully I will meet some of you over the summer. The way this year has gone so far, I suspect I wont be travelling too far over the next 3 months or so, it certainly won't be a long season for me, before looking for a place to store for the winter (possibly ashore). I need some time in the autumn to get some fettling done on Sabina H, as I have an ambition for her to be on the move very early next year. (She is well overdue a drydocking). Although she is all there, lots of things need attention before she is fit for a sea passage (even a cautious winter one) plus I have upgraded bridge electronics, including a radar, that need installing. cheers John Why don't you look at stooring the Ormelite on the Great Ouse? Would extend your stay. Fish and Duck have a large secure hard standing and an excellent slip. www.fishandduck.co.uk/Perhaps give them a call and see what their rates are like? Like you I have some plans for ours over the winter, nothing drastic but I'm determined to get some use out of her this summer!

Until I start using the boat I am not sure how much I will be able to achieve and how long it will take to build up stamina. It might be as well for me to set a fairly low target this season and see how it goes. I'll look into that one .

Well Finally after the best part of two months, I have had my tow up to the River Lark. so although it's a zombie thread, it's a sort of ......current zombie.....ish Sods law though, within 24 hours of a firm day to move the boat I also got the date for the operation I have been waiting for this means that my already restricted visit to these waters has just been further curtailed !!! I will have to look round sharpish to find somewhere that she can be left for, at a guess, 3 or 4 weeks while I recover a bit before setting off again. Met Phil of this parish today, I was shocked ........... I was looking for someone bright yellow, and wearing shorts !!!

John - sorry to hear about your health problems. I hope your upcoming surgery is successful and fixes whatever is wrong. If you happen to get cut in the abdomen or groin, be aware that it can take a couple years for the cut muscles to mend properly, and they never are as strong as they were originally, so you have to be careful how much stress you put on them because you can get a hernia along the surgical incision fairly easily, and then you need another surgery to get that fixed. Don't ask me how I know this......

Glad you're up here in the promised land. Hopefully your op won't restrict you too much. You can be lock free for a good amount of cruising in the Ely Ouse. We will be at Denver on Thursday 22nd June, should start locking at 11am ish that morning.

Hi John. Sorry to hear you've been having health issues. I hope it's not so bad that you can't have a drink to feel better. Maybe see you up the Gt Ouse in a while?

My op date (at the moment fingers crossed) is 27th June, hopefully (as there are no heavy locks to work) I will be able to start boating again before the end of July
