Oh I see you meant the other direction. I was thinking you had come downstream yesterday.

Most of the night boaters around here, tend to show no lights as they are usually up to no good.

"When I first visited Nottingham by boat, I was warned not to moor outside Sainsburys or the magistrates court." - that's from 2007. Clearly things haven't changed.

Love night time cruising, done Napton to Hawkesbury overnight, 8pm to 6am, Hawkesbury to Braunstone over two nights, Tamworth to Atherstone overnight.. The double locks at Braunstone were scary though at night. I do not think I could ever do those locks at Braunstone overnight..they terrify me during the day!

We occasionally enjoy a bit of night boating. On the BCN challenge we finally got to tie up at 11:30pm. Fun coming down the Curly Wurley onto the mainline and then mooring at Tipton. Not sure I’d want to do locks in the dark though.

Does it not concern you @magnetman that you may be causing a noise nuisance to others who have settled down for the night ... after all you have made your lack of tolerance of other boaters behaviour clear many times I like 'silly o clock' early morning cruising, but evenings quite often involve a little alcohol for me, and I don't boat and drink ... just a personal choice. Perhaps also, moonlight on the wide open Thames has greater romance than the T&M in Stoke. Rog Sorry I missed this earlier. No to your first question because the noise is not going to be available to anyone else's ears for more than a few minutes due to the fact the boat is going along at say 4 knots. Yes there might be some noise available to lock keepers who reside beside the locks but they presumably took on that job with the knowledge that boats are allowed to use the waterway at any time. And it is not a noisy boat in fact I have had comments about how quiet it is. So no is the answer. And I make sure not to cause wash which would rock boats around. fortunately due to the incredible excellence of this particular boat it will glide along at the said 4 knots and barely make a ripple. That's as good as it gets.

It was a rhetorical statement @magnetman intended as a humerous device ... that went well didn't it Night boating is not something we see much of on the canals ... I'm quite pleased really as it is disruptive having headlights flashing around, and impossible not to get up and have a nosey no matter how comfy you are. Rog

Rog I agree it is a bit more disruptive on the cut mainly due to vessel movement. Under no circumstances will I ever derive humour from your suggestion that I may be a nuisance of some sort. At least I don't go around nicking people's boats

Sometimes late night boating is appropriate if one has to absquasculate for some reason.
