"I'm the best there is, there is absolutely no one like me," said the conceited Fox.
"I think you'll find that's likes," replied Jim Riley.

We're not right or wrong .., we just express opinions. Thinking about the other persons opinions, even if still disagreeing, is what this place is all about ... man Rog

I must go to all the wrong places.
In a district I used to live in, there was a tragic story of a widower whose husband had unexpectedly died during a quite ambitious project to enlarge their house. The widower had no way to complete the job since it was predicated on the ability of the husband to do the work. Thus, it has remained in the same state it was in when the husband died (and to the best of my knowledge) to this very day. To make matters worse, it seems that the work would have met building standards at the time, but not now. So even if the work was completed as per the original plans it would not be signed off.
This was held to be universally hilarious by all who were aware of the situation - which was quite a few since the details were quite well-known. One guy was genuinely surprised when I ventured the opinion it wasn't in the slightest bit funny. I still remember the look on his face.

That doesn't sound at all funny to me.
If the bloke had choked during a cockroach eating competition, fallen while attempting to force open the door of a departed lift, or doing a selfie while skydiving and tangling his parachute in the phone then yes it would be quite amusing but without knowing the cause of death it is impossible to find it amusing.
The bloke might have been randomly run over by a coach. Shit happens.

Also there was the one about a parachutist who went through the rotating blades of a helicopter waiting to take off. How everyone laughed. Sometime around 1994 at Kidlington if you want to look it up.

No that's just unlucky.
There is a difference. Doing things which are liable to cause harm which then cause harm can end up being funny to others.
Random incidents like being assaulted by a swan while in a dinghy followed by drowning are less amusing.

Oh I see the bloke fell of the roof.
I didn't read your post properly. I didn't realise that the death was directly attributable to the house renovation. I thought it just happened to occur during the time when the work was taking place rather than being strictly work related.
I suppose it could be quite funny if someone fell off a roof but we would have to know the exact circumstances .
Perhaps the word got out to the locals that he was looking at pornographic videos on his phone and lost concentration and fell to his death.

But people do find these things funny. Even I think the one about the attempted theft of metal which ended in electrocution is hilarious. It isn't really, but there you are.

I think it's quite funny if someone stealing something ends up getting killed because of it.
I assume it was something like nicking copper cables from beside a railway line and hitting a live conductor.
Yes, definitely funny.

Maybe he cut his own head off with a circular saw.

As I recall it was a substation and the deceased was a resident of a well-known caravan site. Which made it funnier. Obvs.

I had to laugh at this line (from the Sun) I don't think I'd have thought to take the chargers, or the phones, for that matter.

I know the one - Dallas (dogless, patty, LOOK AWAY!). Funnily enough, I didn't find it 'funny' but 'shocking'. ashlianne.wordpress.com/2010/03/21/dallas-copper-bandits/
